And It’s Off

To the editor, that is. Imperial Rogue (Ashes of Empire Book 7) is now in my capable editor’s hands after 13 days of review the manuscript — 6 full reviews in all! Barring any unforeseen issues, it should hit the bookshelves around November15th. And my, that was a long time coming. Almost a year. But this year has been a bit more difficult than previous ones for several reasons. In any case, it’ll be your hands soon.

What am I doing next? Working on Coins for the Dead, set in the Thousand Worlds universe, a very different galaxy from my Commonwealth and Empire saga which, with Imperial Rogue, will encompass 32 full-length novels. I already have the first two chapters of Coins for the Dead written, and it’s grittier, with more morally ambiguous main characters than my previous books. It’ll be good to get away from the Commonwealth and Empire saga for a while, if only because I want to try something different and new, even though I have the transformation of the Commonwealth into the Empire to chronicle via Ghost Squadron. Perhaps you won’t be waiting another year to see my next book, if things go as I plan. Late Winter is a distinct possibility.

Watch this space for the announcement that Imperial Rogue is out. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy, my friend.

Ta-Daa! Done!

It’s taken much longer than I thought it would, though serious family issues in late Spring and early Summer didn’t help, but Imperial Rogue (Ashes of Empire #7) is finally done. It won’t come out in October because I need to do several revision runs and then it goes to my editor, but barring any unforeseen problems, it’ll be published sometime in November. I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I published my last book, but life does tend to mess up the best laid plans. After Imperial Rogue, I think I’ll turn my attention to Coins for the Dead, the first in a new series that won’t be set in the Commonwealth and Empire universe because, quite frankly, part of why it’s taken me so long to write Imperial Rogue is that I feel like I need a change. Thirty two novels set in the same universe is a lot.

In any case, happy Fall — or Spring if you live in the southern hemisphere. The leaves are turning multicolour around here and nighttime temperatures are already reaching for the freezing point, though daytime is still nice. Keep your eye on your favourite retailer come mid-November! Stay safe and healthy, my friends.

Happy Mid-Summer

Apologies for not posting in such a long time, but suffice to say I had to deal with serious family issues since mid-May. They’ve settled down in the last week or so, which means I now have more energy for other things, such as making this blog post and more importantly, writing my next novel.

I’m pleased to say that after many delays, Imperial Rogue (Ashes of Empire Book 7) is finally moving again and I’m two-thirds done. It won’t come out until October, for several reasons, but progress in the last few days has been better than at any time in the last few months, so I’m hopeful that I’ll be done writing by the end of August.

Here in the Great White North, the weather has been excellent of late, warm, sunny and downright pleasant. I do love summer as much as I dislike winter and I’m enjoying it by sitting out on the deck every day from four in the afternoon until bed time (with a break for supper) reading books by fine authors I’ve discovered recently.

And that’s it for now. Stay safe and healthy fellow humans. Peace.

Catching Up

It’s been a while since my last post, and I apologize. But we spent over a month in the Caribbean in the January-February timeframe and I’ve been busy.

I’m doing something I’ve never done before: writing three books simultaneously. Why? Because I like to be productive even when something in a book’s plot isn’t working and I’m stuck until I figure it out. And lately I’ve been stuck a lot for some reason.

So, what are those books? First, there is Imperial Rogue (Ashes of Empire Book 7), then there’s The Cost of Treason (Constabulary Casefiles Book 5) and finally, the first in a new series, set in a different universe, that of the Thousand Worlds, Coins for the Dead.

The first two sit at one-third completion, while the third is only at 10%. None of the books will be published before the summer, alas.

And that’s all I have to share on this gray, rainy April day in the Great White North.

Stay safe, fellow humans.

Happy New Year!

“May green be the grass you walk on,

May blue be the skies above you,

That pure be the joys that surround you,

May true be the hearts that love you.”

And may the coming year be better than the last.

Merry Christmas!

“May peace and plenty be the first

To lift the latch at your door

And happiness be guided to your home

By the candle of Christmas.

God’s blessings and peace be yours throughout

This New Year.”

Another year has gone by, and gone by fast. Time seems to be accelerating, the older I get. Perhaps it’s the notion most of it has already passed that makes it feel so. Oh well…

In other news, it looks like there will be a seventh Ashes of Empire adventure after all. I toyed with a new series set in the same universe, a few years after Imperial Dawn but in the end, it didn’t gel. So now I’m re-working the concept as Imperial Rogue – Ashes of Empire #7. It’ll feature some of the folks from Imperial Dawn like Norum and DeCarde reprising their roles. When will it be out? Likely not before late April or early May.

And now, peace fellow humans. Stay safe, stay healthy, and enjoy the season.

Victory and Video

I’ve sent off Violent Fires (Ghost Squadorn #5) to my editor earlier today. And that means I’ve turned my attention to my latest scuba diving trip video. If you’d like to see what we saw under water 3 weeks ago, take a look. It was a lobster trip, because we saw a lot of large, mature lobsters, but they were fun to film anyway.
