Many people know me as Dominick Cruz's mom — he's the two-time UFC Bantamweight Champion. What fewer people know is that I was not just a spectator, but a fellow martial artist as well.

I never planned to write a book about MMA fighters. I planned to raise my son, run my business, and figure the rest out as I went. But watching Dominick dedicate his life to this sport, I started seeing what others were missing. Beneath the spectacle was something deeply human: men and women who had survived the unsurvivable, and were now pouring that survival into something beautiful.
