Prince Edward Island

Although 'With Love From Bratislava' is mostly set in Slovakia, the story starts off in Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward Island. Famous for being the home of Anne of Green Gables ('Anna zo Zeleného domu' in Slovak), its beautiful landscape and friendly people make it a wonderful place to visit.

Fun fact: Prince Edward Island produces 25% of Canada's potatoes!

Coffee and Pán Králiček

If you’ve read With Love From Bratislava, you’ll know about a certain Pán Králiček coffee wagon that makes a regular appearance in the story! Pán Králiček (or ‘’Mr Bunny’’ in English) began as one of Bratislava’s first mobile coffee shops, and eventually opened a permanent café (Pán Králiček Priestor) on Budovateľská Street. Their popular mobile service also continues to operate: you can find them on Poštová Street and other select locations most days. Besides the delicious range of ‘hipster’ coffees, Pán Králiček is well-known for its charming and characterful baristas, many of whom speak English as well as Slovak. Which ones could possibly have inspired the characters of ‘Oskar’ and ‘Eva’ in the book? Go grab a coffee and find out 😊

To learn more about this Bratislava institution, the blog Welcome to Bratislava features an excellent post about Pán Králiček: www.welcometobratislava.eu/pan-kralic...

Inspiration for the Gorgeous Cover Picture

The gorgeous painting 'Michalská brána a hrad' (Michael's Gate and the Castle) from the cover of 'With Love From Bratislava' is by Slovak artist Lucia Chocholackova. Her colourful works display city scenes, castles, country scenes, and more. In her paintings, buildings lose their static nature, but the foundations are firm. They give the impression that their place is completely somewhere else, where they do not belong. Check out her Facebook page and website to view her work :-)
