Very nice review of Modern London: An illustrated tour of London's cityscape from the 1920s to the present day in the new C20 Magazine. Reviewed by Geraint Franklin from Historic England. Here's a few (obvs positive) highlights:
Novotny has developed an effective graphic style somewhere between cartoon and infographic in which each elevation is pared down to its essence without losing the telling details.
In an especially nice touch, the spreads are peppered with a miscellany of roadside structures such as phone boxes, Belisha beacons and London-related vehicles such as the infamous ‘bendy buses’.
The text is lively, accessible and there’s a barely-suppressed sense of fun.
