One night my Mom came into my room and saw me making signs with markers on poster board: “Erik 4 Prez.” I made a dozen.

            “What are you doing?” she asked. 

            “I’m running for president.”

            “Really?” she asked. “You hadn’t mentioned it.”

            I shrugged and kept working.

I took the signs and a roll of tape to school.
