Petrina Binney is from 1980s south London. Daughter of a nurse and a carpenter, she spent much of her childhood writing stories to bring into school for whatever the eighties English equivalent of 'Show and Tell' was called.

She spent her teenage years avoiding all manner of naughtiness, instead writing copious amounts of self-indulgent poetry and reading multiple Brontes and Daphne Du Maurier.

In 2015, she hosted her first ever dinner party and, due to a heavy stomach and a slight bout of alcohol poisoning, dreamt up the character of Fiona Weaver-King.

Having spent 25 years in Devon, Petrina now lives in Somerset, with her partner, dogs and far too many books.

Well, taking myself and my books off the table, because that would be too easy, I would go to Manderley, and Rebecca.
At the moment, I like to think I’d be some sort of little local character, hobbling down the road and gossiping about the first Mrs. De Winter.
In truth, I’m probably one drinking session away from being Mrs. Danvers.(less)

When I was growing up, I didn't have a big family and those who'd gone were like heroes: I heard about them but they were somehow separate. Because of course they were. They were dead and I was little.
Although you can look up dates of big events, for example births, marriages, deaths, in the census, and you can search out military records, I would always want to know whether my people were happy. And there just aren't records for that. But in itself, that's a bit of a mystery and might be something I explore one of these days.
Also, one of my great-aunts might have been a murderer, so I'd probably start with her.(less)

‘Early summer can be a miserable time in southern Arizona. It’s hot, it’s monotonous, it’s boring. No one wants to go outside and sweat and swelter in the heat. So they stay locked inside, watching Netflix and praying that the air conditioner doesn’t break. A few brave souls will venture out in the early morning hour
