Crossing the Thin Blue Line

As the star of Rowanville’s law enforcement team, there is nothing more important to Scarlett Kennedy than her job and the responsibilities that accompany it. However, when an indiscretion that she thought was long forgotten comes back to haunt her in the form of Tanner, a newcomer to her small town, Scarlett finds herself navigating uncharted waters as she tries to forget the intensity of their past encounter and conceal the mounting attraction she feels towards him. Despite her determination to keep their relationship strictly professional, Scarlet soon comes to the realization that she is falling quickly and irrevocably in love with her one night stand.

Excerpt from Crossing the Thin Blue Line:

Scarlett Kennedy doesn’t usually spend her free time in bars, trolling for one night stands. But she also doesn’t usually become informed that she lost out on the promotion that she’d been counting on for the last three weeks.

She put on a brave smile as she placed a hand protectively over her badge, before walking out of the office ten minutes early. The entire time she barely kept herself from flipping off Chief Jenkins.

So once she arrived home and headed straight for her closet, she chose to ignore her whiny roommate complaining of reruns and the fact the trash hadn’t been picked up because it hadn’t gotten out to the curb on time. After she was alone and in silence for a moment, she felt herself relax just slightly.

Still, no rest for the weary, for she could feel a throbbing headache was incoming, and the only thing that would guarantee a fix was a good stiff drink, and one other stiff thing.

Scarlett smirked to herself as she looked around the bar, still finishing off her second scotch.

It burned on the way down, but now that she had grown used to the taste, it was more like a scorching caress of a lover. Sadly the chair next to her was still empty. She looked down at herself, taking in the high heels, toned legs and her favorite red dress that still hugged every curve.

It was nearly a decade old but made her feel a decade younger.

So much for thirty flirty and thriving, when the town one lived in was only populated in the quadruple digits, the high ones, but still.

Detective Tanner Patterson, well, soon to be Detective, arrived in town after dark, and already he didn’t find himself liking Rowansville. The one hotel it housed was more like a bed and breakfast, and he felt guilty to be checking in alone. But damn he didn’t need to.

The girl at the counter glanced at his bare left hand and smiled to herself, as if she thought he wouldn’t notice.

He was there for work and only temporarily, soon enough he’d find his own little cottage by the cliffs and then he’d be out of everyone’s hair and off their radar…he hoped.

After getting settled in he realized that there wasn’t a single bit of food to be found, nor a drink in the mini fridge (besides water). He groaned and then picked up the small booklet on the lone table accompanied by an even lonelier chair.

Local bars and restaurants, and the usual entertainment called out to the reader, but only one thing stuck out to Tanner.

A bar within walking distance.

He shrugged on a lighter jacket, leaving his heavy wool overcoat behind on the bed, and exited the horribly dull room with a slight slamming of the door.

Even after he’d arrived at the bar he found himself still grimacing, but at least now the smell of food and the tang of smoke filled his senses instead of dust and damp.

His hand shot up to feel his inside coat pocket, to ensure the emergency syringe was still there, just in case, and he sighed with relief, before stalking up to the bar and taking a seat beside a petite blonde.

“Rum and coke please, and one of your burgers.”

The wood of the counter was like marble under his hands, cold and smooth, and he found himself stroking it rather absentmindedly, until his drink and food were set in front of him.

The blonde beside him had clearly had a drink already, and the smell of her perfume invaded his space when she turned to him.

“You’re new.”

Tanner was prepared to growl at her to leave him alone, as he’d had a very long and trying day thank you very much, but then he got a better look at her. Not just as a detective and a solitary man in a bar on a Thursday evening, but as a someone who’d been without any semblance of a real conversation with another human being in far too long.

His only immediate reply was to snag his glass and take a long drink.

“Scarlett, this is Detective Tanner Patterson, he’s just arrived this morning. There’s been a call in. A body was found on the beach this morning. I’m sending you with Patterson to do the preliminary investigation.”

Scarlett glanced to the man in the corner of the room, standing with his shoulders slouched, and turned towards the window overlooking the back parking lot.

She swallowed and nodded, a frission of fear shooting through her as she considered the possibilities of the report. But when the man looked up at the sound of her name, and faced her, she felt a different emotion, shock, spreading through her. The name registered itself in her brain, and she fought the urge to run.

“Detective?”

The gravelly voice from the night before uttered the word, and she could only echo the one word reply,

“Patterson?”

“Do you two know each other?”

Chief Jenkins broke in, and Scarlett was forming the word ‘yes’ with her lips just as Patterson spoke,

“No.”

Love Game

The US Open occurring currently was the inspiration for LOVE GAME.  I am an avid tennis spectator, and I am relishing in all of the news that has recently hit.  Rafael Nadal retires during the middle of his match against Argentine third seed Del Potro, 29, who was leading 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 because of a knee problem.  Nadal, the top seed, twice needed medical attention before conceding.  Nadal had problems with his right knee during his third-round win over Russian Karen Khachanov.

I am excited to see Del Potro have another shot at a Grand Slam title.  Del Potro last competed in a Grand Slam final when he won at Flushing Meadows in 2009, ending Roger Federer’s 41-match winning streak in the process.

Nadal will most likely rehab his knee, and will resume back on the tennis circuit.

On the women’s side, Serena Williams takes on Naomi Osaka in the Arthur Ashe Stadium, and viewed only on Amazon Prime.

This is how each of them reached the final:

Serena Williams:

Round one – beat Magda Linette 6-4 6-0

Round two – beat Carina Witthoft 6-2 6-2

Round three – beat Venus Williams 6-1 6-2

Round four – beat Kaia Kanepi 6-0 4-6 6-3

Quarter-final – beat Karolina Pliskova 6-4 6-3

Semi-final – beat Anastasija Sevastova 6-3 6-0

Naomi Osaka:

Round one – beat Laura Siegemund 6-3 6-2

Round two – beat Julia Glushko 6-2 6-0

Round three – beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-0 6-0

Round four – beat Aryna Sabalenka 3-6 6-2 4-6

Quarter-final – beat Lesia Tsurenko 6-1 6-1

Semi-final – beat Madison Keys 6-2 6-4

They have met once before, at the Miami Masters earlier this year. Osaka won that match 6-3 6-2.

I am sure my characters: Isobel and Graham have had similar journeys as tennis pros.  Love Game focuses on their marriage, dissolution of, and awkward after.  Find out if fate will bring these two tennis champions back together.

The Effect Available for Pre-Order

Pre-Order the Effect!–Will be available Saturday!!

Heavily Erotic–Dark Fantasy/Science Fiction

This book delves into erotica and is on the dark fantasy/science fiction side.

Under the power of a plant, Brandon turns into an insatiable beast, ravaging Michelle until she can barely take any more. Michelle loves it when he is entranced and under the toxin, but Brandon aggressively claws and bites Michelle’s neck.  Michelle falls asleep after being ravaged, and Brandon is no where to be found.  Michelle frantically searched for Brandon, could he had been embarrassed by seeking her out and forcing himself on her, although she was willing?  Perhaps it was the effects of the plant that encouraged him to pin her down with the weight of his body, and he was ashamed, and couldn’t face Michelle. Michelle loved the effect that the toxins had on him, and didn’t want him to seek medical attention.  Michelle loved it when Brandon took control and ravaged her.  As the effects of the toxic plant ware off, they decide to make use of the empty control room.  As they enjoy each other, Brandon is concerned that Michelle is not as pleased as she usually is when he is under the effects of the plant.  He whined frantically that his Michelle would be dissatisfied with him, that he could barely look at her.  Will Michelle be able to love him without the effect?

MANDY

Getting Mandy out has been a blast.  I did everything myself.  I wrote, edited, formatted ebook and paperback, designed the cover, and doing the marketing for the book.  I am in the midst of recording the audio to be released on audible.  It has been a labor of love, and a truly rewarding experience.

I had some issues with the formatting.  Sorry if you were an early customer of the ebook, I had some settings set up wrong in Scrivener, and it gave two additional, empty chapters.  There was no content missing, I had two chapter headings set that didn’t exist–Sorry!

The updated version should be posted to Amazon after they approve the changes.  Sorry again for the inconvenience.

Date Night

Seattle is a dream city!  I love the fog and cloudy days, being from the UK.  I also enjoy being close to the sea, hiking, and attending the farmer’s markets.  There is no place that I would rather be living, than in Seattle.  Saturday night, my husband and I went to one of our favorite spots, Purple Cafe and Wine Bar for dinner.  One of my favorite appetizers is baked brie.  I don’t have it often, because of the high fat content, but on Saturday night, I indulge.

I also had the Flash-Sauteed Calamari with tomatoes, capers, chickpeas, and olives and is served with grilled bread, making it like a bruschetta.  Then my husband and I had the ultimate treat, we shared the Maine Lobster Mac and Cheese.  It is to die for!  I love seafood, and I love lobster, especially the ones from Maine.  I also love Mac and Cheese, so it is pure heaven when I order this dish.
