K.A. Ashcomb is a writer. Worth Of Luck is her debut novel. With an MA in Comparative Religion, seasoned with Social Psychology and Sociology, she has set out to create a comical fantasy universe which mirrors our own world. K.A. Ashcomb began creating stories about gods, unfortunate heroes, and jerks when she was working behind a bookshop’s counter. When she isn’t writing books or crafting stories for video games, you can find her in the woods, roaming there while trying to find her way back home to her keyboard and beloved books—and, oh yes, her beloved husband and cats.

I deal with writer's block (and everything else) by going under my table. Yes, as odd and stupid as it may sound, it works. I have a roomy table, and underneath it, there is a lot of space. I take a notepad with me, and calm down and start writing down questions or character motives or some detail from the book and usually, ideas began to pour out.

I'm happy to answer any questions about the wonderful world under tables and what they can do to your mind and mood.(less)

Enigma

The alien landscape was divine with its deep purple and green colors. The old abandoned artifact rose in the middle of the strange trees that had taken over the roads, worming their way to the huge monolith. This was what she had been looking for all these years. This was her dream.

The artifact was the first sign that there was or had once been alien life in the universe. She had traveled wi

"This tale of loss and the ability to strive on despite deep suffering isn’t an easy one to forget. Set in the backdrop of first Ireland in the late 1800s and then Australia through the 1920s the story goes from a soggy, overcast world to a sunny, dry" Read more of this review »

Raymond St. Elmo
“We look into the eyes of a dog and know ourselves in the presence of a being that forgives all debts. Surely it is some natural relation twixt our species? We can’t all have been saved by our dogs. Unless that look in their eyes is itself a kind of salvation.”
Raymond St. Elmo, The Scaled Tartan

Oliver Sacks
“One must drop all presuppositions and dogmas and rules - for there only lead to stalemate or disaster; one must cease to regard all patients as replicas, and honor each one with individual reactions and propensities; and, in this way, with the patient as one's equal, one's co-explorer, not one's puppet, one may find therapeutic ways which are better than other ways, tactics which can be modified as occasion requires.”
Oliver Sacks, Awakenings

Oliver Sacks
“Diseases have a character of their own, but they also partake of our character; we have a character of our own, but we also partake of the world’s character: character is monadic or microcosmic, worlds within worlds within worlds, worlds which express worlds. The disease-the man-the world go together, and cannot be considered separately as things-in-themselves.”
Oliver Sacks, Awakenings

Oliver Sacks
“We rationalize, we dissimilate, we pretend: we pretend that modern medicine is a rational science, all facts, no nonsense, and just what it seems. But we have only to tap its glossy veneer for it to split wide open, and reveal to us its roots and foundations, its old dark heart of metaphysics, mysticism, magic, and myth. Medicine is the oldest of the arts, and the oldest of the sciences: would one not expect it to spring from the deepest knowledge and feelings we have?”
Oliver Sacks, Awakenings

George Orwell
“What is above all needed is to let the meaning choose the word, and not the other way around. In prose, the worst thing you can do with words is to surrender to them.”
George Orwell, Politics and the English Language
