Finding Annevra Prequel Scene • Grant’s POV

GRANT

My mother peered into the foyer, her hand on my shoulder. With the other she wiped away the single tear that had escaped her eye.

My gaze settled in the same direction as sadness and frustration pooled in me; emotions I’d become familiar with as of late. They were accompanied by a longing to fix something intangible–whatever ominous event had put my parents through so much grief and overt

“Plus, best friends are like lovers. There’s no limit to what you tell each other.”
Josephine C. Lieder, Finding Annevra

“Since I met you, for lack of a better term, I could tell that you were operating on a different frequency. That you—that you were like me, basically. I’m not sure if I give you the same vibe or if I just have my own personal knack for sensing these things, but, the entire first night we met, I was trying to figure you out. And your defensiveness just confirmed it for me. You’re hiding something.”
Josephine C. Lieder, Finding Annevra

“Her eyes were only inches from my chin. Her lips, so close to mine. She was driving me crazy. I gave her a halfhearted smile.
I wanted to kiss her.
But not here, not now.
Not like this.”
Josephine C. Lieder

“A half-read book is a half-finished love affair.”
David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas

“You're growing up. And rain sort of remains on the branches of a tree that will someday rule the Earth. And it's good that there is rain. It clears the month of your sorry rainbow expressions, and it clears the streets of the silent armies... so we can dance.”
Jim Carroll

“I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of the night.”
Allen Ginsberg, Howl, Kaddish and Other Poems
