J. S. Helms is the pen name of Julie Helms, a wife, mother of two grown daughters, and—most recently—a grandmother. Over the years, she has been a sheep breeder, homeschool mom, curriculum store owner, and Bible study teacher.

She writes fiction that explores biblical themes through story rather than explanation, seeking to make complex theological ideas more tangible and human.

In addition to The White Line, she is the author of Gods They Had Never Known, a novel that draws on Genesis 6 and the Book of the Watchers. Releasing January 2027.

"I personally enjoyed the deep emotions that can feel with the characters throughout the entire book. The story is so simple but a powerful reminder of the story of Jonah through a modern lense. I appreciated the main character not knowing what to do " Read more of this review »

The White Line by J.S. Helms
"Most of the time, none of us like being told what to do, especially when we really don’t have a heart for it. This is clear in the Bible story of Jonah, who is told by God to preach a message of repentance to the people of Nineveh, who then have the " Read more of this review »
