As a shy, awkward kid, M.K. Beutymhill adored Victorian charm, fairy tales, and RPG gaming - none of which she ever outgrew. Over time, contact sports and work abroad balanced her out into a proper ladythug, and she now writes genre-blending fantasy about adventure, discovery, and other badassery.

Her clockpunk fantasy novelette, Iron Sharpens Iron, was chosen as the Grand Prize Winner for the World Anvil Anthology, and her Victorian time travel adventure, A Peculiar Count In Time, has been featured in When To Now: A Time Travel Anthology, A Twist In Time Magazine, and was recently adapted to the interactive, choice-based app, Tales.

Time travel is a gold mine of opportunity on this front...after all, magic is often science misunderstood, right?

That's often proven the case throughout history, particularly surrounding the Comte du St. Germain. He's the kitchen sink when it comes to fascinating, rabbit-hole types of legends - immortality, alchemical laboratories, secret societies, political intrigue, treasure, science, and mysticism - no one really knew who or what he was. His quest for knowledge and advancement would have been a dangerous one over the centuries, and perhaps because of this, St. Germain is but one of his many rumored identities.

History also gave us Isabel Cooper-Oakley, the real-life Victorian trailblazer who went on to write her own book titled after his namesake. To this day, her research remains the most frequently referenced on the topic of the count, and I simply had to tell this time-traveling adventure through her eyes.
