quick update!
Sorry, it’s been so long since I’ve updated here! Things have been Happening, however, so it’s not all been quiet. Just BUSY!
– bloom –If you subscribe to my newsletter or follow me on twitter or instagram, you’ll know some of what’s been going on, but I’ll plop a short list here:
At the end of February, I fell and broke my patella. I wish I could say it was a cool story involving pirates and robbers and me being a hero, but no, I tripped over my own two feet when someone stopped short in front of me. And in order for me to not crash into her, I stopped short, fumbled, and went BOOM. I’m MOVING! After 11 years living in the River West neighborhood in Chicago, I’m finally moving somewhere new. Way north, seems to be a quieter neighborhood. Most importantly, the space is 3x the size of May Street, and there is a TON of natural light. I get an office and I can’t wait to create in there!I am no longer working a day job. For now I’m going to concentrate on healing, moving & getting settled, freelance work, my family, and WRITING!!Speaking of writing…….

cover reveal!
When my editor asked for my input on my cover, I was amazed, and very grateful. I was very honest about what I liked and didn’t like, and gave them ideas of my dream cover. Then I threw myself into life, edits, travel, etc. etc. I thought about my cover, but I didn’t obsess over it. Much.
Then in October, my editor showed me the concept, which made me cry at my desk at work. About 5 weeks later, I saw an almost-finished version. Then she showed me the full ARC wrap. Y’all. It’s EVERYTHING I dreamed of…but better. The designer, Marcie Lawrence, really gets me. We’ve never met, but you’d never guess. And the lettering designer, Jess Cruikshank, knew exactly what I wanted as far as the text and lettering. Both of these brilliant artists gave me exactly what I dreamed of. Beyond, even.
The cover captures the essence of the book, but also captures me.
The NOVL reached out to me to host my cover reveal… and you can find the post here! Please give them some love. They are amazing!
Anyway, here it is! I think it’s stunning. I hope you love it as much as I do!

Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think!

when i’m a published author.

I first posted this on my personal blog, but I felt like it would be relevant here as well.
I am writing this now, in my debut year as an author of young adult books for teens, as a testimony and a promise. I want you to point me to this post if by some reason I become an asshole down the line.
When I’m a published author:
I will remain humble
I will remember how long it took me to get here
I will remember all the people who helped me along the way
I will do my best to pay it forward
I will welcome any and all fan art and fan fiction (oh please God let there be fan art and fan fiction)
I will avoid Goodreads the best I can
I will be ready for ANYTHING to happen, or nothing to happen at all
I will continue to be grateful that this dream of mine is finally coming true
I will not cull my Twitter or instagram to seem “cooler” or “more important”. If I do cull, it will be for my protection and to enforce safe boundaries
I will not tell people variations of “you can’t sit here” because they’re on a different part of their path from mine
I will not become a diva
I will not read reviews!!!!
I will never respond to reviews, especially if they’re negative!!!
I will protect my family
I will protect my mental and physical health
Most importantly….I will keep writing, and keep dreaming big, no matter what happens

debut year.

It’s here. It’s finally here. Yes, my book won’t be out for another 11 months, but the fact is that I have a debut year. And that year is 2019. Which is now.
Holy bananas.
Full disclosure. I started this post on December 21, 2018. I wanted to publish it January 1. But then life. And being sick. And day job and freelance and did I mention I’ve been sick since December 15?
It’s OK though. I’m posting now!

big things.

December is a big month in my family. My birthday is the 20th, there is Christmas, my son’s birthday on the 30th, and then New Year’s Eve. This year there was a lot of extra: a trip to Disney World to celebrate my birthday and my 10th wedding anniversary to Adam, still transitioning into my new job, lots of parties at said new job, and milestones in my first ever experience being a published author!
Needless to say, it’s been busy, stressful, yet absolutely lovely. I’m falling into a routine at my job, which I generally enjoy (my team is amazing, even if I’m bratty, like I was today). While I was at Disney, I succumbed to the cold that had been threatening me for more than a month. My immune system was no match for hundreds, if not thousands, of coughing children.
I’m very happy to be going into a four day mini-break. I’m happy that I’ll get to sleep in three of the four days. And I’m excited to celebrate Christmas with my boys and kitty cats. I plan for it to be a total pajama day, calling loved ones (hi Mommy!) and binge watching The Good Place.
But it will be back to reality soon enough. I think I’m ready?
It’s time for a reset of sorts. I’m not one to make hardcore resolutions, but I do like to set intentions. And the beginning of a new year is such a good time to try things out. No need to jump right in, though. It’s OK to test the waters in a non-judgmental way. So that’s my plan.
One of my intentions for 2019 is to figure out a better work-life balance. There is so much I want to manifest, but I keep loading myself up with work. I have a lot of fear. But there are blessings on the other side of that fear. I simply have to push through.
Lots of plans for this site, my book, and more! I hope you stick with me as this little place on the web continues to grow and evolve. I’m so excited to share everything with you. In the meantime, please follow my socials (twitter • instagram • goodreads!), and say hi! I love meeting new people.
Until next time….
