MOVIE NEWS!
The film industry works in mysterious ways, but I’m thrilled to share this news!
**Exclusive** Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) has been set to star in serial-killer thriller The Edge Of Normal, the first English-language feature from director Carlota Pereda (Piggy).
Pic was written by Matt Venne (Dexter: Resurrection) with revisions by Lori Evans Taylor (Final Destination: Bloodlines), based on Carla Norton’s novel of the same name from St. Martin’s Press.
The synopsis reads: “Reeve LeClaire is still haunted from when she was held captive as a teenager by a sadistic man, but when her psychiatrist asks her to mentor a newly rescued survivor, she’s pulled into a chilling game of cat-and-mouse—one that threatens to drag her back into the nightmare she barely escaped.”

coming on Netflix...
I’ve got news! Last year I signed a nondisclosure agreement, flew to California, and spent a day working with a film crew. Now, at last, I can post this because Unsolved Mysteries has released a teaser about their new season: “The iconic series returns with nine new mysteries in Volume 3. Join the search and perhaps you may be able to help solve a mystery. The three-week event starts October 18th, only on Netflix.” _ @unsolved on Twitter
I’ve done a few interviews -- talking about true crime &/or crime fiction -- and never know how it will go. Once I was interviewed in a massive, freezing-cold television studio in New York. During the worst of the pandemic, I spent a sweltering afternoon speaking to a computer screen with a masked sound technician and a masked cameraman hovering nearby.
I didn’t know what to expect with Unsolved Mysteries. I followed their directions and drove down a winding road to a rural location where I met with a busy, highly professional crew. I can’t share details, but the show takes a fresh look at an astonishing true crime story. My episode is airing November 1st on Netflix. I hope you’ll tune in!

Hello True Crime fans!
If you read PERFECT VICTIM and would like to know more, you're in luck!
OXYGEN PROGRAM JULY 17, 2021
‘SNAPPED’
On May 19, 1977, Stan was hitchhiking from her home in Eugene, Oregon to northern California to attend a friend’s birthday party. She was 20 years old and had thumbed plenty of rides before. But this ride would end differently.
She was picked up by a couple, Janice and Cameron Hooker, who abducted Stan, imprisoned her in a coffin-like wooden crate, and used her as a sex slave for seven years.
“Snapped Notorious: Girl in the Box,” airing Sunday, July 17 at 7/6c on Oxygen, traces Stan’s horrific ordeal. It’s a brutal and shocking story, which explains why it continues to be explored in books, movies, songs, and TV shows.

Thanks for the nice review!
“Norton’s talent is best showcased in the way she delves into the psyches of Reeve and Tilly. A taut, exceptionally written book.”

Corks & Conversations podcast
My friends over at Game of Books just posted their latest "Corks & Conversations" podcast with yours truly. (I tried to choose a wine with a literary tie-in and Once Upon a Vine caught my eye. Do you know any others?)

Fact or Fiction? Attack of the Crime Writer!
DATE: May 18, 2019
GUEST SPEAKER: Carla Norton
PROGRAM: Fact or Fiction: Attack of the Crime Writer!
Are you fascinated by a criminal case that’s “stranger than fiction” and tempted to write a true account? Or would you rather cherry-pick details and blend them into a crime novel? Either way, there are certain steps to take and legal issues to consider. What are the challenges and pitfalls in writing true crime? When is it okay to fictionalize? And what’s the key to a good book proposal?
Maybe you’re ready to dedicate blood, sweat, and years into researching a crime, or maybe not. But here are some insights into the process and some tips on how to craft a story with the grit, complexity, and emotional payoff necessary for a successful book.

TIME: 11:30: Mingling; 12:00: Lunch; 12:30: Business Meeting; 1:00: Presentation

Portland, anyone?
Hello Bibliophiles! Do you live in the Pacific Northwest? If so, you might want to consider a visit to Portland at the end of March. The Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) organizes a huge annual conference in a different city every spring, and beautiful Portland is the hub this year.
The AWP Conference is a great opportunity to buy autographed books from featured authors and to rub elbows with the literati. The schedule is always jam-packed and it can be a bit overwhelming, but pace yourself. Besides enjoying a wide array of panel discussions and keynote speakers, you’ll also have an opportunity to talk with representatives from dozens (hundreds?) of MFA programs. It’s the best way to ‘visit’ campuses without jetting all across the country. (This is how I ultimately decided to attend Goddard College, one of the best decisions of my life.)
I’m excited to be visiting beautiful Portland and reconnecting with many wonderful and talented friends. I hope to see you there! Here’s the link: https://www.awpwriter.org/awp_confere...
