The first story Mai Wen wrote, when she was 7-years-old, was about a tree house and a dog. Two things her 7-year-old heart yearned for but did not have. So began her lifelong chase through her dreams, and her nightmares, from mind to written word.

In her essay, "Just Call Her Madame" from the anthology "You Do You," Mai writes about empowering girls and how the messages we give them can hold them down. Much of what she writes hold true to these themes. Her two young adult science fiction manuscripts portray a girl surviving from abuse with a bit of time travel thrown in. In her adult fantasy manuscript she is currently working on, Mai addresses sexism and racism in an urban setting. And there's glowing skin.

Just in Time.
