Hello there! It’s been a while…

Hello there! It’s been a while…

Now that ALL the “New Year’s” (January 1, Lunar, Gaelic, and the Human Design New Year on January 21) have brought us squarely into 2021, and we’ve had a chance to exhale (aahhh?)  and integrate some of the tumult of 2020, where do we go from here? What are the next steps in the Program? Do we follow the crowd – or continue on our own path of discovery and renewal?

My apologies for a seeming hiatus from sending out this newsletter. What news? Only a few things. And my inclination was to stay relatively quiet and observe. There seemed to be so much “noise”. I wasn’t idle and I’m still not one to “binge watch” – can’t sit still for long (Open Root)!

I found a bunch of projects to dive into – the Human Design Conference in September (see my talk about Generators here), the publication of a book chapter in October, a Human Design Rave Marathon for the HD New Year, being the Technical Director for a video produced for a Social Justice Discussion Group as part of a non-profit women’s organization (may be shared soon), lots of cards and chocolate chip cookies for the holidays, a re-dux of my Up-Level Your Relationships course in the Fall, bought a bunch of books, read a lesser bunch of books, and watched and helped a bit as the elections and aftermath unfolded. I hope you found projects that inspired and empowered you, too.

We also stood by and grieved as a larger-than-usual number of our family and friends passed away (ironically, none from COVID-19), and watched and grieved as many around us also succumbed to the virus. The tragedy and anxiety of this past year cannot be ignored. It has knocked us on our collective asses.

How we each get up again is up to us.

While I like a lot of the platitudes on social media that talk about getting through this period of time, I’m also realistic. There is no going back to our old way of life. And that’s sad to many. 2019 is in the history books and we will never be there – freely moving about the world and living our lives in full-hug camaraderie – again. So much has been revealed as broken in our systems and infrastructure. I alluded to this in June – and unfortunately, that part of the story has only been revealed in more detail. So much has been revealed that it would actually be lunacy to return there. Even Bruce Springsteen’s evocative “Middle” commercial during the Super Bowl falls a bit flat for me. Is there a middle ground? Is that really the goal?

In my Human Design chart, I’m built as an Individual who’s supposed to bring new ideas to the Collective. But I can only do that as an example. I don’t have much of a voice or an ego or willpower. I don’t get too excited about stuff and I’m not always grounded. But I do have a lot of energy (now that I’m doing what I’m here for), a willingness to help humanity and values (trust and integrity) that make me want to improve my life and others’ lives.

So that’s what I’m doing. That’s what’s kept me going during this pandemic. I’m not giving up now. In fact, now it seems even more important to help people understand what they’re here for and what’s most important to know about themselves, as themselves.

And so I keep going. It may not be pretty or polished at first. I’m realizing that the perfectionist tendency hasn’t always served me. But my work is always done with love and compassion. I’ll be releasing the Transits course soon so you can see what’s affecting you daily/weekly, I’ll be doing weekly videos about the Human Design weather so that you can follow along, and I’m working on a new book about Relationships.

“Bloom where you’re planted”. St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622)

All we can ever do is do the best we can with what we’ve got from where we’re planted. Be well…till next time.

June 25, 2020: Chaos to Calm and beyond

June 25, 2020: Chaos to Calm and beyond

rose garden trellis

In such challenging times, it’s not easy to know what to say. I’m no prophet or guru or therapist. I’m just living my life as you are: marveling at the changes we’ve seen since the start of 2020, wondering how things will turn out, and hoping/praying/meditating for peace, justice and health to be the ultimate outcome for all of us.

But some days I’m also questioning whether I’m crazy to even hold those optimistic thoughts when everything around us seems like chaos and uncertainty.

Uncertainty is a given. Sorry.

We are here as humans to adapt and thrive. We have always adapted and thrived.

And the future is uncertain. (If anyone tries to tell they know what’s going to happen, they’re lying!) In fact, the only thing I or anyone else can say with any certainty is that things WILL change! And that’s actually always been the case. Things never have been certain. Control was always an illusion. We like to think they were certain – that we had some control over what happens in our careers, family, finances. But we don’t have control of the things around us – all the outside forces, and we never did. Control was always an illusion that we held onto.

You do, however, have control of you. You have control of your intentions, your goals and aspirations. You have control of your thoughts and actions. And you can be in alignment with who you are. No masks (the unseen kind), no inauthenticity. To hide from who you really are is a lie.

Maybe it’s time to live in alignment with the real you?

Some people are resistant to the changes and want to stay in their power over others. They are in their egos, believing that power and greed are the goals. But they are becoming fewer and fewer. And the power and domination thing just isn’t working out the way it used to. The secrets are coming out, the deals are being revealed, the way the rules are written is changing, and the scales are tipping toward the justice-seeking populists rather than the elitist power-grabbers.

And that’s all I’ll say about uncertainty. It is a crap-shoot, but it’s our crap-shoot. We get to decide the outcomes.

Chaos is the water we’re living in.

So what will you do and what will the next steps you take look like?

And that brings us to the chaos that surrounds us.

Is it surrounding you or have you been somewhat immune to it?

I’m so grateful that I found Human Design when I did.

I think it’s keeping me immune from the chaos and the uncertainty.

You’ve probably heard this: Human Design is the instruction manual for who you are. (Yes, there are others. So if you find the modality, process or system that works for you, that’s good. This is the one that’s worked best for me for the last 11 years.)

We come here to remember who we are. If you were born prior to 1987, you came in as a baby forgetting who you are, and it takes many years to fully comprehend our purpose. If you were born since 1987, you are already living your purpose because you came in knowing it. Big difference. And it’s what makes me hopeful for the future. Anyone under 33 understands their purpose for the most part. And they will come up with all the solutions we need to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. But they could also use some help from the rest of us!

Human Design is the empowerment you may feel you need in the midst of so much uncertainty. Human Design is the process for potential – revealing distinctions you’ve never seen or acknowledged before. Human Design is the motivation you may need. Human Design is definitely the information you need, if you don’t have it already.

If we want to expand our consciousness to the Fifth Dimension, this is the time we can dare to dream! Especially during these times of retrograde planets – Pluto, Venus (since May 13; goes direct today), Jupiter, Neptune and Saturn – and as of June 18th, Mercury! This is all about energy transformation – your individual transformation to a more conscious human as the rest of the world transforms, too. We’re all becoming butterflies, but the transformation can get a little messy.

Nobody really likes change, but change we must.

And if we don’t come out of hiding now, then when?

As Caroline Myss said in a recent video: “There is no end. We’re not going back to ‘normal’. This is the journey.”

What talent are you transforming into mastery? What are you passionate about? I had a client recently who knew she wanted to do something beyond her current role. She’d already gone through two other careers and was now ready to leave the third – she just knew in her bones it wasn’t her passion. But then, what was her passion? The other three careers left some clues, and as we looked at her chart, and especially her Kiron return, there it was! That was it, she exclaimed. That was what she was passionate about and would do it for free, if she had to. But she won’t have to; doing what she loves will bring the abundance.

That’s the great ah-ha moment that happens in so many of my client sessions. And then they’re off – all those butterflies. Free to find themselves in their passions.

We are the changemakers. It’s our time to lead.

Surrender, please, into knowing that we’ll all be okay. We need to trust. To have faith and pray for clarity. And as we feel better and raise our vibration, we gain clarity. With that clarity, we can move into our power and create a new story.

It’s almost like we’ve been gifted a reprieve with the virus, and now we get to start all over again. We’re not going back to the “ways things were”. Those ways don’t work anymore. The “comfort” that you may have felt was terribly uncomfortable for others. So we’re going to have to change. As a planet, as a country, as a region, as a family, as an individual. On all levels.

I’m finding that it’s okay to be happy as I travel this journey to clarity. And I think you will too. Know your values, stand in the power of your authenticity, and you’ll have clarity about what your passion is and therefore your joy.

We have to learn the truth. Our truth. No one taught us what that was exactly in school or in life. As the Bible and others say: “Know the truth and the truth will set you free.”

Know Yourself

You can “Know thyself” through Human Design. Don’t beat yourself up. This isn’t the time for that. Learn through awareness. Live your authentic self. We never really know how powerful we are until we need to be powerful. Just like we can’t heal until we’re sick (or know we’re sick). We react to the pains, discomforts, inconveniences. Nobody changes until they have to. None of us do.

So now is the time, isn’t it?

More awareness of who you are leads to more acceptance of yourself and less judgment – of yourself and others. The goal is to accept where we are – right now – so that we can expand. Ask yourself penetrating questions to get to joy and love.

You are a genius at something – and it’s time to play your part.

“The journey is always the journey back to ourselves.” Kevin Ford

We’re all inter-connected, and we’re also all in a void. We’re untethered with no reference points. This virus, the social injustice, the unemployment, the healthcare system are all in the void as well. We’re all in the void and asking what’s next?

Because of Quantum Physics, the truths are hidden in plain sight. And Human Design is one of the modalities that helps us to see the truths of who we are.

Human Design can be your map to accept who you are and who you’re here to be. The answers you get to the questions you’re asking will lead you to your expansion. What I’m finding is that knowing my values, feeling better (and yes, even happy at times) and more hopeful leads to more clarity.

I often wonder: Why do we tolerate the pain in our lives? Isn’t it time to be rid of the pain?

This is a time to find your passion and be devoted to your “art”. Whatever that is. Devote yourself to it body and soul. So that it becomes your only focus and your only perspective. Does this food help my art? Does this exercise serve my body so that I can easily perform my art? Am I sleeping enough, reading enough, observing enough, listening enough to keep expanding my art? What else can I do to serve others with my art? And how can I do that sustainably – as in forever and ever – until it’s time to leave this body?

Are you beginning to feel that you can be the calm in the midst of chaos?

I hope you are. I know you can be. Trust that you’ve got this!

April 27, 2020: A few new paradigms in our “new normal”

Hello! I hope that you and your family are doing well, staying healthy and grounded, and doing whatever you can to adapt and even thrive during this time. After doing so much research and observation over the past month, fully hunkered down amid a lot of thinking and wondering, I wanted to share some things I’ve discovered and assessed as true for me. They may not be true for you (and I know you’re doing your own research) so this is my current philosophy of these interesting times:

1.   This pandemic has happened/is happening for a reason. It is a global energetic re-set. Some are calling it the Big One; others like Dolores Cannon have called it the “Event”. And it may just be the very beginning of the Event.  My favorite all-encompassing description (so far) of what’s going on is an interview by “Inspire Nation” with Gregg Braden. As both a scientist and spiritualist, his take on COVID-19 is factual, hopeful and reassuring.

2.   There are many lessons to observe and take away from this experience. All over the world, we are seeing cleaner air and water, less pollution, with more animals and flowers apparent as Spring emerges in the Northern Hemisphere. Two lessons for me stand out: How little we really need materially, and how much we need each other and human interaction. I’m not craving the things I thought I needed at all; I am craving a friend’s hug. Bottom line: we really are all one. And we’re in this together. But it can also feel like it’s hard, we’re tired, too much negative stuff around and we’re not feeling very productive. In addition to Gregg Braden’s grief cycles, here’s an article from Medium  that helps to explain why “working from home” two months ago doesn’t feel the way it does now:

3.   While the virus is indeed virulent – it can spread quickly amongst people – the virus is not a threat to the healthy immune system.  When tests are done in any random sampling of a hot-spot, the infection rates are 20-40% of the tested population. That’s a lot. Many people have either not known they had it or recovered very quickly. Care should be taken, but the point on the curve of over-burdening our health care system seems to be past in many parts of the country. Yes, physical isolation worked; it’s time to come out and restore the economy, slowly but surel

4.   There are other global forces at play, and their time is over. Yes, the virus is unseen, but it has revealed the invisible hand of global power. These too have been unseen, but are now being shown to be the greedy, the powerful, the “Masters of the Universe” who make the decisions for the many. As we look beyond the veil, their secrets will soon be revealed as the causes of social injustice, social inequality, poverty, disease, pollution and so much more. As the infrastructure crumbles, the Wizards are revealed to be very weak without the people they control and wish to control. Do your own research; there’s plenty out there that makes this point. Bottom line: they played their role; their time is over; it’s time for new rules, new ways of doing things, with unity, love and doing what’s best for all humanity as the governing tenets.

5.   Our “new normal” will be of our own creation. Start to set your intentions now: how do you want today to look? Tomorrow, next week, next month, next year? It’s up to us. We can design the future we want. If you had already started the transformation before March, you have the opportunity to continue until you like the final result. If you are living in a brand-new normal, take your time, get your bearings, and take one step at a time. The world is waiting for you!

We absolutely get to set a new path of discovery and joy. It’s a path of your own making! As Gregg Braden says: “We’re designed to adapt and thrive in times like these.” Let’s do it!

March 16, 2020: Staying Healthy and Grounded

There’s a lot of information out there and a lot of mis-information as well. As you might expect, I’ve been researching a lot over the past week to pull the fact from the fiction. I’ve found a few things I think help to tell the story, and thought you might like to see them, too. Whether you’ve been busy or overwhelmed or not really paying attention yet, here are some items that help to tell the story of how and what this is and how we can keep ourselves in a place that isn’t fear – not certainty, of course, but feeling like we’ll be taken care of as this plays out over time.

This is what I intend for all of us: staying healthy and staying grounded.

Keeping healthy will likely look like: Staying home with family; working remotely; resting; recovering from burnout; taking up new hobbies and interests; walking in nature; appreciating the Spring, wherever you are.

Keeping ourselves grounded in peace rather than fear will look like: being empathetic, compassionate, and available for the needs of our family, neighbors and those with compromised immune systems, and keeping our safety in mind as we do that.

I’ve included a few factual and scientific articles/videos, and then a few of the more spiritual guides who are speaking on this topic. Please choose whichever of these resonate with you. They won’t all fit; choose the ones that do and leave the rest. Enjoy!

First, some factual articles and how to take care of yourself with lessons learned from other countries:

February 18, 2020

Feb. 18, 2020: We are made of stars – just as Ra said

What if we really are all connected? I know I often say that – but you may not believe me. It’s what we say in Human Design. We’re all connected – different life purpose, different energy, different life paths. But we’re all here to make a difference, all floating as a drop in the same ocean of possibility.

So what if we are all connected? What would that mean for you – and for me? How might that change the way we talk to each other? Treat each other, laugh and cry with each other, vote for each other?

In the United States – and in the U.K. and elsewhere – our discourse with each other and via all media has been filled with ideas and the reality of separation for a while now. No one can seem to agree on points of view or even on the facts that make up their points of view. Throughout the holiday season, there was little that sounded peaceful, joyful or even hopeful around the world as portrayed by the media. There even seemed to be a lot less of the cheery “holiday stories”. So, I’m hoping, many of us turned to our own families, friends and communities where the sound was “off” of politics, so that we could just enjoy the company of our loved ones.

And – even if this was short-lived – didn’t that connected-ness feel better than the divided discourse of politics that allows for feelings of dis-connected-ness the rest of the year? The voice of fear?

What if we went looking for places where that connection happens – and focus on that? We all know that what we focus on in our thoughts increases. We always get more of what we’re focused on, right? So why not focus on connectedness rather than separation? Love rather than our differences? Compassion rather than who’s right in the moment?

We say we’re in search of those things. That’s what I say anyway. That’s what most of my clients say, too. But how much do we really want it if we’re only focused on it a bit? What if we could focus on connected-ness just a little more each day – until we reach the magical 51% mark (more than half! That’s all we need) – where we’re more focused on increasing the connections and love in our lives than the opposite? What would that look like? I wonder…

January was pretty bleak – even though the energies coming in were pretty strong, the resistance to the changing energies is still defiant. Thus we saw Australian fires out of control, the U.S. impeachment trial, the UK Brexit finalized, and a taunt of Iran, just to name a few major news stories.

So I was looking for ways to feel better. It was hard to completely ignore what was going on here and globally. I felt I needed to pay attention as a “good citizen”. But it was hard to watch and harder to stay engaged.

So I found a few things that have helped me to feel better – and feel more connected. I want to share them with you with the hope that you’ll feel more connected, too. And whenever I see things come up at least three times, I know it’s a message for me to pay attention to and share as much as possible.

We are made from Stars!

“We are all atomically connected. Fundamentally, universally.” The first indication I found was a TED talk that illustrates we’re actually all connected as star matter – the stuff that’s left after a star explodes as a supernova. Pretty cool, right?

Ra Uru Hu, the creator of Human Design, always talked about our birth as the conjoining of elements from above in the heavens (neutrino streams) with an element coming up from the Earth. That sounded a little fantastical until you hear this TED talk!

The astrophysicist, Dr. Enrico Ramirez-Ruiz, says that the cycle of stellar birth, death and re-birth allow for the air we breathe and the atoms of various metals that create each of our bodies. Fully 96% of our bodies are hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon and oxygen (all the water is the H2O); the rest are mostly basic elements, like iron, calcium, magnesium, etc.

The death of a star becomes a supernova and can last for years as a very bright “star”. What’s left after it explodes and dissipates throughout the Universe are the neutrino streams that Ra spoke of early on. They were originally thought to have no mass, and it was proven in 1994 that they do have mass, just as Ra said.

This combination of astronomy and chemistry is what creates each of us – and connects each of us so seamlessly. The speaker even goes so far as to say that we need each other to find OUR missing pieces and to feel “complete”. Not surprisingly, this sounds a little like the energy of Human Design when we put two charts together. Take a listen…only 15 minutes and fairly amusing for a scientist!

Joaquin Phoenix at the Academy Awards Ceremony

Then at the Oscars in early February, we saw the heartfelt and passionate acceptance speech of Joaquin Phoenix. While we’re all squabbling about this cause or that, he sees commonality. It’s all about social injustice, he says. If we’re involved with a cause at all or care about something deeply, it’s usually to help others who are less fortunate. So can’t we all agree that there are ways we can look at these issues more creatively – as opposed to from lack or us versus them?

“Human beings at our best are so inventive and creative and ingenious”, he says. Joaquin goes on to say that we should use “love and compassion as our guiding principles.” And he ended with a quote from one of his brother’s songs: “Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow.”

Talk about connected-ness as a result of this two-minute speech. Can you imagine how many people globally heard it live or saw it the next day on YouTube or other social media and felt more connected? Millions as it went viral.

“This is how Scandinavia…”

The third place I was struck with the possibility of connectedness was in an Op-Ed article by the conservative writer David Brooks called, “This is How Scandinavia got Great”. (NYT, February 14, 2020, p. A27) Since the late 1800’s, just as the Industrial Revolution and economic growth sprouted, all the Scandinavian countries realized they needed a robust, inclusive, and ongoing learning system.

They created something the Germans call “bildung” (no English equivalent). According to Brooks, “it means the complete moral, emotional, intellectual and civic transformation of the person. It was based on the idea that if people were going to be able to handle and contribute to an emerging industrial society, they would need more complex inner lives.” What a concept! In other words, teach the whole person and allow them to connect fully to others – family, friends, community, nationally, and globally – with the feeling that we’re all responsible for each other because we’re all connected.

Would that work here and in other countries as it has worked there? Maybe we could connect and find out!

Deepak Chopra’s Laws of Success

Lastly, I’m doing a 21-Day Abundance Meditation from Deepak Chopra that spreads via friends and family as small communities using WhatsApp. I’m really enjoying it. And I’d highly recommend it, if someone asks you to join their group. (or see https://thejoywithin.org/authors/deepak-chopra/abundance-meditation-challenge  to start your own group.)

Since we’ve been talking about connected-ness, this was perfect timing – any my fourth recent instance of hearing about connected-ness. Yesterday’s lesson had this quote about Unity: “In today’s meditation, we will talk about unity as the basic truth of all that exists. As individuals, we are not alike. We have different lifestyles, beliefs and perceptions. However, these differences exist only in the physical plane. Whereas at the molecular and spiritual level, we are all one and are connected with the universal primary source. When we begin to fully understand this concept of life in unity, the idea of a personal “I” gives way to the image of a universal “I”. The concept of rivalry and competition disappears. This relationship contributes to deep love and empathy for everyone that surrounds us.”

*******************

So lots of connected-ness, lots of love and compassion. My conclusion from these uplifting pieces is this.

To make the world a better place for you and yours:

Get connected as much as possible
Stay connected as much as possible
Invite others to connect as much as possible
Disconnect for a bit and then repeat as often as possible.

Have a great week!

January 9, 2020

January 9, 2020: New again, YOU again…

New again, YOU again…

Have you ever noticed how…

There can be a bunch of people in a room, but only voice can be heard above the others?
How some people light up a room when they enter it?
How some children need so much more down time or sleep than their siblings?
How there’s always one manager/boss who can get their people to do anything they ask?
How some people just excel at the holidays – delicious cookies and holiday feasts, beautiful cards, handmade ornaments, and all at an elegant pace? (while the rest of us fade into the couch?)

It sounds like the start of a joke – a la Seinfeld, perhaps – and it could be. Because we’re all pretty funny as humans. But we all have unique Human Design charts that have us act in funny ways – especially around the holidays!

I’m no stand-up comic, but some of the things that happen and what people say are so true to their own design, that you can’t make it up! Have you noticed?

We run around trying to be, do and have more – more than the next guy, more than we used to, more than our parents had.

Especially at this time of year. New year, new resolutions perhaps, new you? There are so many how-to articles and trend articles with all the answers to your issues or challenges. And how to be a “better” you.

What if I told you that there’s really no reason to change?

There isn’t. No reason to change one bit. (See Principles below for a quick review.)

Of course, we all want to be “better” versions of ourselves. But the basics are already there in your chart and you get to be yourself each day of the year.

It’s a choice. We always have a choice. It’s the choice to follow our Strategy or not.

I know.

That flies in the face of what most of the gurus say: “You get to decide whether to be happy or not.”

No. I’ve got a different take on that. You get to decide whether to follow your Strategy or not. Following your Strategy is what will make you happy – eventually. And sooner than you may think.

When the “experts” say that you get to choose how “Happy” to be each day, they don’t usually provide a lot of directions. If they do, it sounds like willing yourself to be happy, meditating until you’re happy, vision boards, etc. I don’t buy it. It’s a temporary fix at best. At least it never worked for me. Has it worked for you? (And if it did work for you, please let me know what does work for you; I’d love to hear about it.)

Here’s my process. This is the actual process that I know works for me and my clients:

Step 1: Follow your Strategy consistently.

Step 2: Grow as a person as you are following your Strategy.

Step 3: Follow your Path to joy/happiness/peace.

See, I think you have to be busy to be happy – doing your thing – whatever that is. And the world does need you now!

If you have any questions about your Strategy, how to follow it or the things that get in the way of following it, please send me an email so we can talk about it. Or schedule a session with me to take a good look at your Human Design chart to finally find out what makes you tick.

Wishing you much Success and Peace as you follow your Strategy this year!

**********************

As a reminder for the New Year, the Principles of Human Design (from my book, “Getting to Know YOU”) are in the image above. Here they are in prose:

You are a unique being. The combination of who you are and why you are here is as unique as your fingerprints.
It’s much easier to be who you really are than who you think you should be.
You are who you are and nothing can change that. You’re beautiful just as you are.
Human Design helps you remember who you are. You were born perfectly and nothing has changed.
Human Design is about making decisions that are right for you versus what’s right for anyone else.
You don’t need to be fixed. You’re perfect just the way you are.
You’re here for a reason. The world is waiting for the authentic you to emerge.
Human Design allows you to be the you you were born to be. You don’t need to take anything personally; it’s just energy.
If each one of us were living our unique Strategy, the world would be a lovely and very livable place.
You are designed to receive love and everything you need to survive. The Universe is always taking care of you by default, if you allow It.
Human Design is about Self-Awareness: getting to know yourself better so you can be happier, healthier, more prosperous and more fulfilled.
Things should flow easily when you’re living your design. There’s no pushing hard when you’re in the flow. Relationships, job offers, money, fulfillment will flow to you and through you naturally.

Ditch the labels…and enjoy the holiday even more!

Happy Thanksgiving! And ditch the labels now…if possible, before the turkey…

Why do we care so much about the labels we wear? Some are given, some are anointed, some come and go, and some stay with us forever. Some of us like the labels; others don’t. Or we pick and choose which ones we prefer and which we can do without.

Personally, I don’t care for labels at all. But labels can make things easier when we’re making a recipe, building a tree house or putting something together from IKEA. When things have labels, we give them a name. A screw, a screwdriver, cups, flour, butter, etc.

But we really don’t feel so good when someone calls us anything but our given name. Would you agree?

When we’re called anything in addition to – or instead of – our name, it’s a label. It’s a judgement. It’s a projection onto us. Whether it’s good or bad; nice or naughty. And in my back-of-the-envelope analysis of my clients, something like 80 percent of those labels don’t feel good or right.

So why do we use them at all? There are lots of reasons, I guess. But the simplest reason is because, just like the recipe or instruction manual, labels are a shorthand we use among ourselves to describe someone or something to others.

But is that helpful or hurtful? Especially when we all know that it’s the hurts that last the longest.

We use labels for all sorts of descriptions about appearance (pretty, ugly, thin, fat); political affiliations; nationality and race; physical ability, level of education. But does that tell the whole story? In most cases, probably not. It’s never the whole story. It’s just quicker and easier than giving the whole story in context. So then we hear one or two words, and sometimes make a judgement about that. It doesn’t serve anyone really. And of course, some labels are socially acceptable and others are not.

I just heard a more complete version of the story behind the Cleveland Browns football player who just got suspended for a year. He said that he heard an unkind “label” that led to grabbing his opponent’s helmet and hitting him with it. It was a reaction that wasn’t expected by anyone, and he has apologized. But he’s out for a year, and the other guy is fined $50K. So I asked my husband if players are allowed to say things like that to intimidate the other team. It seems that taunting and intimidation are okay, but “labels” are not okay. Hmmm…so they both crossed a line but in different ways?

When it comes to Human Design, labels are seen as pretty powerful. Many of my clients have come to me after a Human Design session with another analyst. They tell me they’re looking for a “better reading”. And I ask them “Why?”

Usually it’s because they feel they’ve been “labelled” – and it doesn’t feel good. They’re not sure about the labels and the keynotes; they don’t see how to move forward with this new information, and they certainly don’t feel empowered.

As I mentioned, I don’t care much for the labels either! So I’ve wrestled with this myself. Full disclosure: Most people are not thrilled to hear their Energy Type – no matter what it is. And in my humble opinion, I think it’s just because it feels and sounds like a label. For most of us, the reaction is completely normal: “Don’t tell me what I am” or “Why can’t I be the other Type?” or “I feel like I’m the other Type, not this one!”

WE ALL HAVE EVERYTHING! SO WHY DO WE NEED THE LABELS?

So let’s try to clear this up: here are two things that are always true about your Human Design chart and you:

Each of us has EVERYTHING in the chart. We each have all the energy pieces available. All the lines and channels and Centers. Those energies are available to all of us. Just not consistently. The white parts are on your chart and you do HAVE them – they’re just inconsistent energy. Sometimes, you have willpower and sometimes you don’t. It’s natural. And the colored in (defined) parts are what’s consistent energy for you. You can count on that energy all the time. It’s what makes you YOU!
The labels that we lay out on the chart are merely a Starting Point to talk about who you really are! We start with your Energy Type and Profile, Strategy and Authority to confirm what you probably already know about yourself. That if you make decisions this way – your unique way – consistently, things will likely turn out better for you. It’s not mystical or woo-woo. It’s just quantum physics and common sense. And again, it’s a blueprint for your unique life. You get to try it out to prove it to yourself, practice for a while and make it yours. It’s just a starting point.

So what if we used the term “blueprint” for our entire Human Design chart, instead of the labels that we invariably use as a shorthand to explain what Type or Profile we are? Or at least steer clear of using the labels and tell others what we’re about – what’s unique about us, and what we’re up to now — now that we know we’ve got all these cool parts.

I was talking with a new client recently. His Human Design session was actually a gift from a friend, so he didn’t know much about it at all. But he was open to finding out more, he said. But only so much. At the start of the call, he issued a challenge of sorts. He told me he wouldn’t divulge much about himself – he wanted to hear what I had to say first. Then he’d confirm if I was on the right track or not.

So I agreed, and just asked a few basic questions: yes, he owned his own business (in the auto industry); yes, married; yes, wanted to change a few things. Beyond that, I worked from his chart. About halfway through the call – after he’s been confirming everything I said about his chart – he blurts out: “I get it now! I don’t believe this! You’re blueprinting ME!” Coming from someone who works with car blueprints every day, that seemed like acceptance!

Yes, I said, we do sometimes call Human Design your blueprint. It’s a good description. (It’s in the sub-title of my book, I just remembered!) Maybe we should use it more.

He continued and explained how with cars, it’s essential to have a blueprint to know what to do and how to do it so you don’t upset the integrity of the car as you make changes.

Yup, that pretty much explains how Human Design works. Mind your Strategy and Authority, find your life’s purpose, and go. That way you’re running on all cylinders!

In fact, on the TV Show, American Pickers, there seems to be a trend toward rebuilding cars and trucks with very unique components. I love this idea! Not really paying attention to the make or model, as much as to the parts and design that please the builder. The ones they really love! Instead of hot-rods, they call them rad-rods. (for radical, I think! – they even have a page on Pinterest!)

So taking the rad-rod analogy a step further – what if we considered ourselves to be rad-rods? Really unique bodies with all the parts that we needed in this lifetime to fulfill our dreams and goals with a personality that was exactly suited to our life purpose?

I’m a rad-rod; are you? Isn’t it time you were running on all cylinders?

So take a chance. Rev up your engines and have a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family by just being your unique version of you. Cruising down the road to what you want….Enjoy!

September 14, 2019: NO More Secrets!

NO MORE SECRETS

“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power”.

— Quote from President Abraham Lincoln

On the same day in late August in the New York Times, I was struck by the headlines on the front page:

“Judge requires maker of Opioids pay $572M (Johnson & Johnson)
“Two sisters’ early bid to Unmask Epstein’s Abuse fell on Deaf Ears”
“Trial of Powerbroker Plumbs the Depths of Washington’s Elite”
“Bitter Resentment in the Amazon” with photo of the Rainforest’s fires (and they’re still burning!)
And in the Science Times, “Beyond Reprehensible” about infertility doctors donating their own sperm years ago

Really – all in one news day?

And yes, it was the paper version delivered to our door in Florida – which is why I was surprised to see these headlines all at once. I think we can get complacent when the news scrolls by online. Seeing it the old-fashioned way is jarring! (By the way, I started writing this article pre-Dorian. Now we’re past Dorian with gratitude for little damage here and prayers for those still affected. Sorry it’s taken so long. Slowest…hurricane…ever!)

What’s more surprising, I wonder? That so many secrets have been hidden in plain sight for so long – or that they’re all being uncovered and brought to light in such numbers at the same time? At this particular time. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.  As the energies continue to churn, they bring all the “secrets” to light. There was a major influx of energy in mid-August, and since then, I’ve noticed an uptick in coverage of these exposures. It’s almost like everyone noticed at once that the Emperor had no clothes on!

Here are just a few of the most recent hot topics that have had their secrets discovered, where they are playing out for all the world to see:

Chemicals and other contaminants in our air, food and water. The disastrous water conditions in Flint, MI and now in Newark, NJ, for example. The Glyphosates from Monsanto (now Bayer) used on farms and in landscaping for the last 40 years, and that are now linked with cancers and agricultural runoff into waterways, which are NOT regulated by the Clean Water Act of 1967. Recent successful cases against Bayer are just the beginning of the fallout from glyphosates harmful effects.
Pedophilia and sex trafficking around the world. Pedophilia has been rampant in the Catholic Church worldwide for years – probably centuries, but also in other denominations and evangelical churches as well, athletic departments and Olympic programs, children’s camps and private schools. The sex trafficking of people like Jeffrey Epstein has been a well-known secret and looks like the tip of a large iceberg in scope. I don’t think his death will be the end of the investigation.
Gun violence: the numbers of guns are climbing and so are the numbers of deaths from assault weapons. Most people want background checks and safety for our children. The tide seems to be turning but can a biased Congress, corrupted by corporate donations accomplish the people’s will?
The opioid epidemic. With Big Pharma companies as the “dealers” of known addictive compounds, Johnson & Johnson, Mallinckrodt and Purdue Pharma are the first to be fined in the billions just in the past few months.

I could go on. No industry remains untouched by the revelations of greed, corruption and power. Sounds pretty horrible…and it is. So where does that leave us – those not in power who are affected by many of these atrocities? Are we the powerless pawns?

Are you surprised by the secrets? Or like me, did you always suspect they were there, but no one seemed to care or be as bothered as I was? I thought I was just being sensitive – more angered, annoyed, and appalled at the injustices I could see, and imagining what might lie beyond.

And idealistic. I was always idealistically wondering: Why did so many children have to go to bed hungry? Why shouldn’t refugees running from really horrible conditions (drought, famine, violence) be turned away? Why shouldn’t we all have access to healthcare when it’s such a basic kind of necessity, after food, air and water?

And why are these secrets so slow to be revealed? Is it because the power brokers in charge have little incentive to change the rules? Is the greed and power behind these secrets so seductive that there is no motivation to change? Or is the result so satisfying to them (power, greed, corruption) and the mission so abhorrent to many of us that revelations would surely lead to jail time and more notice than their secrets ever wanted?

As Patricia Cota-Robles of Era of Peace (https://eraofpeace.org) has said recently: “We’ve been controlled, oppressed and manipulated for so long. What that looks like is that the evil and nefarious are enslaving the masses of humanity. They prevent us all from moving forward in the Light. Our wayward brothers and sisters know that without people being afraid of each other, they would not be able to enslave and control us any longer.”

(See her complete missive and explanation from the recent conference here.)

She further goes on to say: “They lower our vibrations by contaminating all of us with toxic substances. Our air, water, food and our Earth have all been contaminated.” And especially affected by the contaminants are our children – those born since the mid-1980’s.

This may sound a little unbelievable. But think about it. The power brokers depend upon fear, separation and duality to convince us that Oneness and Connected-ness are a fallacy. This has been going on for centuries in terms of being a very effective tactic for the powerful being/staying in charge, but the toxins in our food, air and water have been exacerbated over the past 40 years. Most of my corporate career was in healthcare, and the changes in data regarding all illnesses, chronic illnesses, suicides, drug and alcohol abuse have no precedent in our history of tracking this data. (Most began their increases significantly in the 1980’s).  How many times have you been to the doctor when they throw up their hands, say they don’t have a solution, but offer you a prescription that only offers temporary relief?

Fortunately, this is all changing. Things may still look a little shaky and unsettled right now. But the reason they’re shaky is because our consciousness is rising and changing and being energized. It may take a while longer but the separation and duality that we’ve lived with for so long is being transmuted into Love, oneness, and connected-ness that we can all thrive upon.

The possibility of “No more secrets” is tantamount to having a fresh pair of collective eyes on each of these topics. A new generation, an educated populace, a more interested rising of activist groups. Pulling back the curtain on what’s been and allowing for a bigger perspective on what could be. Coming up with fresh ideas for tired old problems that have now become a crisis as more people are appalled by these old problems. They’re just not okay any more.

How can this change really happen, you’re probably wondering? As the secrets are revealed, we all have the opportunity to assess what’s gone on, process the changes needed and then move forward into our own unique power.

Buckminster Fuller quoteAs Buckminster Fuller said: “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

We can do this. No fighting against, no “war” against, no marches against. Let’s just change the models completely. Let’s be “FOR” what we want. (My latest a-ha is changing the anger I felt to “passion in action”. Feels the same; looks and sounds a lot different!)

Instead of talking about the weather, politics and all the things that separate us, we can begin to talk about the things that unite us. Our dreams, goals and aspirations. What is it we really want? What excites us? What can we intend for our lives? What do we want for our children? (To put this all in perspective, is this really the world that you want to bequeath to your children and grandchildren???)

And also go inside YOU by meditating, setting intentions, writing down goals, doing an inventory of what’s really important to you in your life (and purge the things that aren’t important.) And start creating your new life from the inside out.

How will you know if you’re creating from the inside out? You’ll be curious, excited, and happy to get up in the morning. Versus listening to others’ opinions, ideas, beliefs FOR YOU. They don’t know you the way you know you. It’s not their fault. The things that work for them most likely won’t work for you. Because we’re each unique beings.

So what do you do?

Here are a few simple ideas**:

Figure out what’s most important to you – find your really uncompromising values. Just a few.
Decide what your passion is. What would you really like to do with your life? Really? What is your unique power, your life purpose, the thing that you’re here to accomplish in this lifetime?
Then connect with self-care that works for you – what will keep you healthy and vital and vibrant so that you can accomplish these goals that excite you?
Show up as you. Show up where you are as who you are. Take action. Be your passion in action. Be curious. Have fun. Enjoy the people you’re with. And allow yourself to follow your (Human Design) Strategy to take the action steps that feel right for you.

A client’s naturopath got tears in her eyes when she said: “I see this in all my clients. When they start to take care of themselves, everything shifts in their lives.”

Is it time to take care of your SELF and become who you know you’re meant to be?

When you do take care of yourself, you can stand right where you are and be who you are.

Your Inner Being is waiting for you.

**Do you need help with these steps? No worries. I thought you might. I’ve created a new course to help you get to where you want to be. It follows the 4 steps above with group coaching, private coaching, a Facebook group and everything you need to get to your passion in action. Find out more here or see the article in the newsletter.

June 16, 2019: These are the young activists who will…

With all the changes we’re seeing, with all the fighting, mass shootings, divergent political views, and major corporations in lawsuits over negligence, pollution, fraud and corruption, the world has seemed a dismal place for a while. And we wonder: how will we ever get out of this mess?

Can I offer a glimmer of hope and optimism?

2018 was the year in which young activists really began to speak up in a way that was heard. In a way that was appreciated by many. In a way that allowed for idealism while offering some tangible ideas. There are a number of articles that list the “top 20” and it was refreshing to read them. Here are some young people who were especially compelling that I found and wanted to share with you:

Emma Gonzalez and the other students at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School, ages 17-19, in Parkland, FL, who started their activism following the February 14th shooting at their school. They organized, got active and created the “March for our Lives” in Washington, DC, a month later. Emma’s stance is: “Fight for your lives before it’s someone else’s job.” In addition to their position on gun legislation, they are also active in getting young people registered to vote.
Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, 17, from Colorado is a vocal activist for climate reform and the youth director/founder at “Earth Guardians”. He has spoken at the United Nations, where his speech went viral, and currently has a case against the United States claiming that his generation cannot be guaranteed a clean environment. He believes that the government is not doing enough about climate change. He says that from a young age he was aware of his role in helping to protect our planet, influenced by his indigenous heritage and travels through Mexico.
Mari Copeny, 11, is from Flint, Michigan, and has been nicknamed “Little Miss Flint”. She advocates for clean water in their town and all over the country. She also has a project for collecting backpack school supplies for children in Flint, called “Pack your Back”, and another called “Dear Flint Kids” which encourages people to write letters to the children of Flint.
Melati and Isabel Wijsen are sisters in Bali who, at the ages of 10 and 12, started a company in 2013 called “Bye Bye Plastic Bags”. Since then, they have petitioned, organized and achieved real change by first getting the Bali Airport to ban plastic bags, then the islands of Bali in 2016, and expect the entire country of Indonesia to ban them by 2021.
Bana Alabed, a Syrian refugee, now living in a Turkish refugee camp with her family, has written a book about her experiences of living in war-torn Aleppo in 2017, when she was just 8 years old. During the difficult conditions, she took to Twitter to relay the devastation, hunger, and airstrikes. Her book is called “Dear World: A Syrian Girl’s Story of War and Plea for Peace”. It was released in October, 2018.

All these children are convinced that “all it takes is one idea and the right mix of determination and willpower to effect change at the local level.” Quote from the Complex, Dec. 22, 2018.

You may want to check out these articles yourself; they are really inspiring and uplifting! Here are the links to some of them:  Global Citizen website, and articles in The Guardian, Mashable, The Nation, and The Complex.

Why these children are different

These young activists, coming into their own now and always younger than 32 years old, are the generation born after Human Design was created. According to Human Design, any child born after January 8, 1987 comes into existence already living their life’s purpose. That may sound weird but…

This is in direct contrast to anyone born before 1987. Anyone born prior to 1987 (33 and older) comes into the world relatively clueless, has their bumps and stumbles along the way, learns their lessons up to around age 50 and then starts acting with more wisdom and consciousness and is ready to share their life lessons with those around them. Sounds pretty normal, rith?

This is one of the reasons so many of us have a reckoning of sorts around 50 years old (in conjunction with our Chiron return) and begin to look at the world differently, make changes in our lives, and generally start to do the things we want to do while helping others in new ways. Whether you call it a mid-life crisis, transition period, empty-nest syndrome or post-divorce move for career, relationship or location, it happens to many people and has been going on for many generations.

Today, the younger generation (0-32) is here to live out their life’s purpose from birth and many mothers I speak with are reporting that by the time they are in school, their children already have a sense of what they will do with their lives. You’ve probably noticed on social media the child prodigies, scholars, artists of all sorts, and technical geniuses that abound – all under the age of 18. They know what they want, and they find ways to get it done. Parents are amazed and awed by their resourcefulness, wisdom, willfulness, persistence and determination.

Many parents are supportive; others are wondering what’s “different” about their child? If you’re a parent or grandparent, please be supportive of their dreams and aspirations. These children are a lot closer to achieving their dreams than we ever were!  And while they may take a while to figure things out, they are in fact here to save us from the worst dilemmas we face, and may actually be able to change the world in a very positive way!

May 29, 2019: Baby Sussex arrives!

On
the morning of Monday, May 6th at 5:26am (London time), the first
baby of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was born. The much-anticipated birth was
more low-key in many ways than the royal arrivals of the past five years, and
the media was none too happy about all that. But the royal parents seemed to
relish the calm, privacy and composure they had apparently planned for. And I can’t
help thinking that whether you call it advance planning, strategic motivation,
or very clear intentions (aka, Law of Attraction), they got what they wanted!

Soon
after his birth, the little one came to be named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,
honoring both Prince Philip’s ancestral name as well as the House of Windsor
for Queen Elizabeth’s lineage.

Since
I had previously analyzed the Human Design charts of Prince Harry and Duchess
Meghan when they got married, I thought it might be interesting to take a look
at Little Archie’s chart. As a brief summary, Prince Harry is a Manifesting
Generator and Meghan is a Generator.

Meghan & Harry’s charts

Meghan’s
chart is that of a Generator with the 5/1 Heretical Investigator and the
Incarnation Cross of Refinement, with the Gate 33 in her Conscious Sun. She is
all about the Privacy of the Gate 33 and keeping things close to the vest
because of the projection of others’ perspectives onto her with the 5/1. Somehow,
she and Harry managed to keep their relationship under wraps for almost six
months. How does that happen these days with cameras everywhere? She was able
to keep her wedding gown’s designer a secret as well. Likely because she’s been
in the public eye for such a long time with her blog and being an actress, she’s
very resourceful and fits into the monarchy beautifully, doing all the required
and refined duties, but also keeping their private life private.  She has two channels – the Channel of
Resources and the Channel of the Seeker. As an actress and lifestyle blogger,
Meghan had amassed and managed her wealth during her successful career, while
seeking to evolve and change over time. She’s a constant learner who is always
wanting to “correct” things (with the Gate 18 – Correction), such as all the
inequities she sees in the world.

In
Prince Harry’s chart, we have an emotional Manifesting Generator with a 1/3
Investigative Martyr profile. He has a voice to be heard in all his charitable
causes, will be experimenting throughout his life with new adventures, and he’s
got the emotional ups and downs that make him interesting and unpredictable as
one of the most approachable and beloved figures in the Royal Family. He almost
couldn’t help but be a soldier with the two channels of Mating and Perfected
Form, which make him a Warrior and someone you can follow out of a crisis to
safety – literally a design of survival. He’s also got the Incarnation Cross of
Eden, which is all about supporting the poor and those in need.

Archie’s Human Design chart

Into this lovely mixing of Generator and Manifesting Generator energies comes another little Manifesting Generator. While there is no way to tell exactly how Archie will grow and be conditioned by his parents and his surroundings, and then further be influenced by his experiences – both good and not so good – there are certain tendencies in the chart that will appear no matter what happens. (And this, of course, is true for all of us. No one is spared!)

Baby Sussex HD ChartArchie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor Human Design Chart

First
and foremost, he is a Manifesting Generator. He will have a voice that is heard
(not necessarily loudly, but he will be heard) and he will have the energy of
the Sacral that allows him to go and go, just like his parents. He has the Profile
3/5, which is the Martyr/Heretic, so he will be curiously experimental and have
something to say that may be the slightest bit “heretical”, while attracting
the attention of others. And his Incarnation Cross is the Right Angle Cross of
the Sphinx, which bodes well for being a thoughtful and just leader, should he
be in that position. He actually has all four of the leadership gates that come
off the “G” Center, as well as the Gate 10, which is the Love of the Self, but
also can be empowerment.

As
an emotional Manifesting Generator, Archie will run through his own emotional cycles
on a regular basis. As any emotionally-defined being, he will have his own
unique cycle of feeling up at times and then feeling rather down. As a baby, he’ll
cry in cycles, most likely. Dad will understand this, as he’s
emotionally-defined, too. Mom will understand because she’s lived with, loved,
and worked with emotional types all of her life. She’s the even-keeled, relatively
non-emotional one who is steadying the ship in all kinds of weather, and is
great in any emergency. The particular emotional channel that Archie has is the
Channel of Openness (12-22), which is a combination of the Gate 12 (Caution)
and the Gate 22 (Charm & Grace). Both are wonderful traits to have as a
royal because he’ll be as charming as his father with family, friends and
strangers, but he’ll be particularly cautious of the family’s reputation in all
circumstances.

With
six energy centers defined in his chart, he will make his presence known, much
like Princess Charlotte, who is also a Manifesting Generator.

These
energy centers give him a number of channels that will act as the themes of his
life: The Channels of Curiosity (11-56, like his mother), Openness (12-22),
Evolution & Growth (3-60), Beginnings, Middles & Endings (42-53) and
Awakening (10-20).

Seeing
a baby’s Human Design chart can be interesting, illuminating or just fun for
the curious. For the parents, it can be a way to know their child in a deeper
way, so that they know their child’s strategy for making decisions, their tendencies
and even why they may do certain things, or get upset about other things. More
than anything, it is a way to see that parents are unique beings themselves,
and sometimes quite different from their child. That’s not good or bad; it’s
just what it is. And the sooner the parent can appreciate the child’s
individual uniqueness, the happier the whole family will be!
