One needs a breather between books, I find. So whilst my first mainstream adult novel, The Last Baronet, is finding its feet, I was intending to do something else, like make a rabbit-proof garden or paint the banisters. This would not, you understand, stretch into the 30 year gap between Flying Changes and The Last Baronet, but it would have given me time to recharge the batteries.
