Author Trent Pettry is a best-selling writer living with his wife and children in Salt Lake City. Growing up, he split his time between consuming sci-fi and fantasy stories, escaping into epic RPG adventures with friends and family, and exploring the forest behind his childhood home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Trent draws many of his story ideas from his own dreams, brilliantly combining them with his life experiences to create the richly detailed worlds and relatable characters he’s known for. A graduate of the University of North Carolina and former US Navy sonar technician on a nuclear fast-attack submarine, he currently works as a professional in the IT field. When he’s not busy at work or plotting out his next novel, he can be found s

As a gift for my wife’s mother, JoAn, her family chartered a bus tour from Salt Lake City to Mammoth Utah, where she was born. Various family members were picked up along the way until we had about 50 people by the time we arrived in Mammoth in the middle of the afternoon. After exploring the center of town, which was just an open dirt area with a small monument at its center, we all got back on the bus. About halfway up the side of the mountain, just as is described in the book, was a huge gaping ‘glory hole’ up by the old mine with newer buildings just below it. When the driver on the bus asked, “Where to?” just about everyone pointed up to the hole by the mine. The driver carefully meandered the bus up the winding and narrow road until we could see signs up ahead. Suddenly, a small pick-up truck driven by a lady cut us off. She jumped out and chained the gate in front of us, just as it's described in the scene with our protagonists. Everyone on the bus was shocked and bewildered – my entire backside bristled. The question on my mind was unmistakable, “What is going on up there?”

Within months, I was writing a fictionalized account that eventually became this novel.(less)

I keep a notepad by my bed (or use my phone) - throughout the night and especially in the morning, I capture what I dream about. A clear and rested mind (no substances) is key. I also think getting out into the world, meeting people, traveling... getting out of your comfort zone will inspire you.(less)

Hey friends,

I’m thrilled to finally share some big news — The Felstone is officially out in the world! 🎉

This novel has been a long time in the making. I actually wrote most of it back in 2020, but the final version didn’t come together until 2024. In many ways, it’s my most ambitious project to date — and definitely the one I poured Read more of this blog post »
