BR #127 | Loving You My Way | Arijit Ghosh | Bigfoot Publications | ★★★★

Book - Loving You My WayAuthor - Arijit GhoshPublisher - Bigfoot PublicationsRating - ★★★★

Author Bio: (from book) Arijit Ghosh is an author from Kolkata. His debut novel "Single Yet Committed?? It's Complicated" was published in 2015 and it had gained much appreciation and positive reviews from readers. It was highly ranked in Flipkart (4.4/5). Arijit loves to read novels, watch movies, play cricket and stays with his parents in Kolkata. He is a B.Tech and MBA qualified and is currently working in a Big 4 firm. "Loving You My Way - A Rebound Love Story" is his second novel.

Book Review: "Loving You My Way" by Arijit Ghosh is a rebound love story based on a different experience of life. The book begins with descriptions of Mumbai and two childhood friends, Nitin and Shivam, meeting after a long time. Reminiscing about college days in Kolkata and how the two friends went their own ways, Shivam narrates Nitin about his recent past. It's not a typical love story as the plot setting starts with the wedding of Shivam Awasthy and Aanchal Khanna. Readers are soon driven in a flashback where the author narrates two different love stories - one being Shivam and Payel, and the other being Aanchal and Manav. It is therefore interesting to read how both our protagonists end up meeting each other and marrying if their original love stories had someone else.
This book will appeal to romance lovers who want to get more insight into the fruitfulness of a rebound relationship. In exploring new avenues of helping people forsaken in love, the author asks and answers the fundamental question - Can we fall in love with a different person again with the same intensity? However, some readers might feel the concept of a rebound relationship to be selfish believing it impossible to forget troubled pasts and memories, trying to get into a new relationship or forge a new friendship in a short span just for the sake of overcoming emotions. This is a story of luck and destiny written in lucid language. The climax is suspenseful with a lot of tension as readers are almost tempted to beg for a happy ending. But fate has different plans for everyone and one must read this book to decipher how a rebound relationship affects lives.

BR #126 | School Ties | Sahana Rudra | Bigfoot Publications | ★★★★

Book - School TiesAuthor - Sahana RudraPublisher - Bigfoot PublicationsRating - ★★★★

Author Bio: (from book) Sahana is a fourteen-year-old. She currently attends Sanskriti school in New Delhi, having earlier been to Bradley Hills Elementary School in Maryland, USA and Auckland High School, Shimla. What she loves the most in the world are her friends, Harry Potter and coffee, roughly in that order. She is an avid reader, and her other favourite books include -but are not limited to-All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven and Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. She has written analytical pieces on the prejudices we face in the real world and how books can help deal with them. She has also reported on the Himachal Art Festival in The Asian Age. This book was written when she was twelve years old, soon after a move back from the US after living there for four years. The fascination for writing and storytelling came from a young age when she would sit wide-eyed, and completely still an unusual feat for the extraordinarily energetic toddler- as her mother read stories out to her. Ever since she was young, Sahana has wanted to help change the world for the better. And in doing so, she believes changing minds comes first. She lives with her dog, her sister and her parents in New Delhi.

Book Review: "School Ties" by Suhana Rudra is a contemporary fiction based on teenage school life and the ups and downs associated with it. Ingrid Addison, a high society girl with difficult parents, receives her acceptance letter to the Crissborne Williams School, one of the most exclusive private schools in the United States. However, her excitement is short-lived since she soon realises that the teachers are disrespectful, her peers snooty, and the Principal, Irene Starkey, rules the school like a dictator. Amidst such unexpected experiences, Ingrid meets her partner in crime, James Weatherley, and they embark on typical mischiefs like blackmailing the Principal, sneaking out at night, or getting into car crashes. But this fun-filled life of Ingrid is short-lived and she soon realises that stuff gets worse here and people lose interest often. Amidst such fallacies, Ingrid must decide whether to make a comeback and save her reputation if she cares at all.
Sahana has drawn a remarkable character sketch of Ingrid. Being a teen author herself, one can almost relate to the story as current happenings or reminiscence of one's life. It felt great reading this book as the plot has a lot of cute drama in it. Just when one problem seems to be nearing an end, another pops up and the protagonist is all left alone to solve the mess. The pages open with two wonderful quotes but the font size is really small and eye-straining. Also, the cover picture could be improved to give a more joyful feeling of the ups and downs teens face in friendship. The language is easy to grasp and overall flow of the plot quite appealing. The story definitely has a great moral to it, one that speaks not of becoming famous quickly but of maintaining that position for some time. It is quite an adventurous life that our Ingrid has experienced inside the pages and she would love to share it with anyone willing to walk in her shoes.

Book Review: "Under the Mango Tree" by Bina Pillai is a romance fiction based on love and the struggles of an unhappy married life. The book sheds light upon the everyday domestic abuse some women have to endure throughout their lives and yet are expected to fulfil all their duties towards their parents, children, and husband. What is ironic is that sometimes she does not even get support from her own mother and therefore has to resort to means for getting love which is considered unethical by the same social standards.

Diya, the protagonist of the story, is a smart and beautiful girl. Despite excelling in her studies, she is forced to marry against her wishes before completing her graduation. Her teenage lover Aditya watches helplessly as her mother resorts to lies in getting her married to Rajagopal. Diya experiences a cultural shock after her marriage as Rajagopal comes from a traditionally strict family. However, she does manage to change a few stigmas. Her married life gets marred since Rajagopal turns out to be an insensitive, selfish, abusive, and authoritative husband. Diya's marital ambitions succumb to nothingness due to the intentional frequent transfers. However, she continues living for her two children Anamika and Vihaan and is unable to divorce her husband due to custodial issues. Diya misses Aditya amidst all her crisis. Will she meet Aditya again?

This book will appeal to romance lovers who enjoy reading a love story full of introspection. The author has highlighted some key issues through this plot like gender equality, domestic abuse, women empowerment, caring for the disabled, and most importantly not to shy away from loving someone. Diya's life is replete with struggles and sacrifices but through her determination and hard work, she is able to succeed in life eventually.

BR #124 | The Pearl of Immortality | Nishi Chandermun | Author's Channel | ★★★★★

Book - The Pearl of ImmortalityAuthor - Nishi ChandermunPublisher - Author's ChannelRating - ★★★★★

Author Bio: (from book) Nishi Chandermun is the pen name for Nishi Singh. She has graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree, cum laude and studied psychology thereafter. Finally surrendering to her greatest passion of all - writing - she now works full-time on the Sands of Time series.
Nishi lives in the city of Durban with her husband and three kids. If there is a single belief she lives by, it would be this:Masterpieces are not created overnight. All that is truly remarkable requires a magical moment of growth.

Book Review: "The Pearl of Immortality" by Nishi Chandermun is a work of fantasy fiction and is the first book in the Sands of Time series. The book is a universe in itself which is quite magical, thrilling and adventurous. One gets reminded of Tolkien's universe and J.K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter' series while turning the pages of this book. A world where Light and Dark clash to rule over the planet of Ishtar over a span of different time periods and ages.

Xerxes is magically transported to Ishtar along with his best friend Kaspar via an ancient golden lamp. Landing in different dimensions of Ishtar, both friends continue their separate journeys for a while. While Kaspar discovers that he is a Veerkah warrior with power from wolves, Xerxes learns about his new identity of Dragonheart and that the future of planet Ishtar rests upon him. Meanwhile, the evil Naga King and Queen foresee their arrival leaving no stone unturned in releasing perils to hinder their progress and stop the prophecy. Together with his Grandmaster Nab, a shapeshifting spider-elf named Siri and his dragon called Sesha, Xerxes must embark on a journey to find the pearl of immortality for his dragon and also discover the power behind the Sands of Time. However, their mission gets increasingly drawn towards a quest to find the Simbirida herb and the Jade Dagger, an indestructible powerful weapon, which can lead them to the pearl in order for Xerxes to become the true Dragon Warrior for defeating evil.

This story will truly fascinate fantasy readers as they encounter a world of Men, Nemurs, Elder Gods, Aryans, Bazilians, Elfs and many more interesting creations by the author. The magical world of Ishtar with speaking doors and hugging trees will enthral the audience if this series is ever adapted on-screen. The protagonists overcome many perils fighting a variety of evil creatures and journeying across myriad landscapes in land, air and underwater. The glossary of character and spell names at the end of the book is a helpful addition. One needs to read this highly recommended adventure book as the author promises to come back with a sequel.

BR #123 | That Is How I Became A Sanyasi | Khemlata Negi | White Falcon Publishing | ★★★★

Book - That Is How I Became A SanyasiAuthor - Khemlata NegiPublisher - White Falcon PublishingRating - ★★★★

Author Bio: (from book) Khemlata Negi is a novelist, poet, and educationist based in Chandigarh, India. Her first novel Hope: the journey to life was published in the year 2016. She has also written a collection of poetry Seasons of life and a book on yoga asana Stay Healthy.

She loves reading, travelling, photography, yoga, and spending time in nature.

She believes storytelling is one of the most effective methods to inspire and move the masses.

Book Review: "That Is How I Became A Sanyasi" by Khemlata Negi is a philosophical work blending both fiction and non-fiction into the pages. It is a story about dreams, relationships, betrayal, courage, separation, and repentance. The book says that in order to get rid of self-guilt we have to start doing new good karmas. If you want the light to be your own torch then do not hesitate to share your light with others. Be a light of hope in someone's life.

Gautam and Diksha are two ambitious people who continuously neglect their families and are running behind their materialistic desires. Diksha realized her loss only when her parents passed away. Similarly, Gautam, who was always too occupied in his business, failed to look after his children, parents, and wife who ultimately divorced him. In the long run, to achieve success and fame, they both became blind to the beauty of the real world. Only after losing did they realize the importance of their families in their lives. Both of them take a journey towards Rishikesh when something unexplainable draws to their minds and they both decide to follow the path of turning into a 'Sanyasi'. What are these mystical events? Who gives them hope? Why do they become sanyasis? One must read to find out.

This book will appeal to readers who love insightful plots. The pages are full of modern-day references. However, the plot seemed slow at times with unnecessary details of the protagonists being included in sub-plots. But this does not de-motivate readers into understanding the essence of the novel - Peace is the only thing that we should strive to achieve at the end of the day. Materialistic life and demand only take us to the alley of destruction, let it be mental, emotional or physical.

BR #122 | The Little Prince | Antoine de Saint-Exupéry | Pan Macmillan | ★★★★★

Book - The Little PrinceAuthor - Antoine de Saint-ExupéryPublisher - Pan MacmillanRating - ★★★★

Author Bio: (from book) Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, born in Lyon on 29 June 1900, was a French writer and aviator. In 1921, he began his military service and trained as a pilot and at the outbreak of the Second World War, he joined the French Air Force flying reconnaissance missions. Later, he joined the Free French Forces, but while flying a mission in Rhône valley on 31 July 1944, he disappeared and was never seen again. It was assumed that he was shot down over the Mediterranean. An unidentifiable body wearing French colours was found several days later and buried in Carqueiranne that September.

Book Review: "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is a work of classic fiction that entices the young and old alike. It is a story that makes readers think beyond imagination, often questioning the everyday actions routinely undertaken by people aimlessly. There are many morals hidden between the pages which reflect upon the meaning of life and what it means to truly uncover hidden messages from our everyday behavior.

The narrator, during his childhood days, painted a boa snake who had just swallowed an elephant but the adults dismissed it as a hat. He blamed the lack of imagination among adults and later went on to become a pilot. He and his plane get stranded amidst a desert in Africa where he meets the Little Prince who comes from a small planet having three volcanoes – two active and one extinct, as well as a flower. The Little Prince describes his journey of traveling to six small planets each inhabited by a king, a show-off, a businessman, a drunkard, a lightkeeper and a geographer before stumbling upon Earth! Each of his visits has a hidden message where the Little Prince blamed adults for lack of imagination. Even while on Earth he first made friends with a flower and a fox. The narrator is quite amused by his tales and develops a deep bond with the Prince as he repairs his plane day by day.

This book will appeal to classic fiction lovers who love reading fiction with a moral. The author has skillfully crafted a plot making his observations on human society through the adventures of the Little Prince. The climax is full of sentiments as his journey back home approaches while at the same time he steps further and farther away from the Prince. However, the narrator takes home with him a lot of memories that are sure to last an eternity among the laughter of stars in the sky!

BR #121 | Love to Hurt You | Rahul Saini | Juggernaut | ★★★★★

Book - Love to Hurt YouAuthor - Rahul SainiPublisher - JuggernautRating - ★★★★

Author Bio: (from book) Rahul Saini is the bestselling author of many novels, including Those Small Lil Things: In Life and Love and Paperback Dreams.

Book Review: "Love to Hurt You" by Rahul Saini is an adult thriller based on love, revenge, and loss. While this book is not suitable for younger audiences, it is a fast read as chapters are short and can be completed in a single sitting. The book highlights many themes and asks many moral questions underlying the decisions made by the protagonists. Character sketches have been made immaculately as readers witness a world of dark fantasies of the rich.

Maya, Sasha, and Garun are the three protagonists around whom the plot revolves. Maya has recently lost her long time lover and commits suicide, but is timely saved by her mother. She later goes on to write a bestselling novel about her experiences in depression. Sasha is a femdom mistress who is married to a rich industrialist. Her husband is an adulterer and therefore he remains out of the country most part of the year, during which Sasha invites other younger men into her apartment and pleasures painfully tying them to bed. Then there is Garun, a young spoilt brat whose parents have bought him the most expensive apartment in the city before leaving for business. He meets Maya as his batchmate in college and devises a sinister plan. But to maintain his high standard of living, Garun must earn some quick bucks and therefore decides to sell his body to older women. Naturally, Sasha and Garun meet. What happens next? Is Garun successful in his plans? Does Maya see through life in her depression? One must read to find out!

This book will appeal to erotic fiction lovers who enjoy a little thrill and spice in stories. There is a lot of character development inside the pages and readers are hooked to find out the ultimate game plans of the protagonists. However, the author has carefully crafted the climax providing a balance of divine intervention coupled with man-made help. There is a kind of poetic justice that leaves the readers satisfied and hooked until the end.
