Kade Quote

This is one of my favorite quotes from A Dark Horizon. I was trying to figure out what my dragon riders were like and build their own identity. And I wanted to include some danger and a hint of things to come in the series.

“I know we almost got eaten by a…whatever that thing was, but we made it out. And you live to ride another day. That’s what it means to be a dragon rider.” —Kade, A Dark Horizon

Unleash the Dragons

I came up with the idea of “A Dark Horizon” in 2023 shortly after watching season one of House of the Dragon. I had been thinking about how there were things I would have done differently in regards to the dragons. Then, after rewatching The Hobbit movies (And no, I don’t agree that they’re terrible. I love them as much as the LOTR movies.), I suddenly wondered if there were any books about dwarf dragon riders. My search didn’t turn up anything.

The concept began with thinking about how dwar...

A Dark Horizon Final Word Count

A Dark Horizon is the longest book I have written so far, but I didn’t add as many words to the first draft as A Stormy Path. I always tend to underwrite the first draft and add thousands of words afterward. For comparison, the first draft for Dark Horizon was 29,135 words and 36 chapters.

Axes and Wings: A Dark Horizon final draft. 38,608 words and 39 chapters.

A Dark Horizon Tropes

A Dark Horizon is the first book in an epic fantasy series about my own version of dragon riders. I used dwarves instead of humans, and filled it with other creatures like goblins and trolls.

But the main focus is the dragons, of which there are plenty of scenes with.

I intend the series to be full of action, adventure, fun, and not to always take itself too seriously.

The book is available at most major retailers.

dragons, battles, friendly goblins, strong male lead, action and adventure, no spice romance, baby dragons

A Dark Horizon Release

A Dark Horizon has been released. I worked hard to get this out before the end of the year, no matter the delays, website glitches, two times being sick, and deciding to do an author rebrand weeks before publication day. I wrote this to be a more classic epic fantasy that has plenty of action, adventure, a bit of clean romance, battles, and, of course, dragons.

A Fantasy Author’s Search History: When was parchment invented?

A Fantasy Author’s Search History: When was parchment invented? Parchment, which is made from animal skin, was developed in the 2nd century BC in the Greek city of Pergamum. It had mostly replaced papyrus and was widely used before paper became popular.

A Favorite Fantasy Series: Inheritance

Inheritance by Christopher Paolini is another one of my favorite fantasy series. It was the first one I read with friendly dragons. It had the same feel as Lord of the Rings, and I didn’t find anything else like it until House of the Dragon. Even though the books are large, I flew through them and greatly enjoyed the adventures and the characters. It definitely inspired my writing later on.

Image features four books in the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini: Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance.
