Or the story takes a turn that surprises you! Yes, I outline and plan where I am going. But then, sometimes, the book takes me somewhere else. That is magical. (less)

I have a meditation practice, but I do that the first thing every day, before I have turned my attention to the world or writing. And I am a serious fan of the bath—as tonic, as therapy, as refuge, as warmth, as inspiration, as just about everything good. I will take a bath at any time of day that I feel the need! (less)

A Conversation with Deborah Goodrich Royce

Q: What inspired you to write Finding Mrs. Ford?
A: Several different threads of inspiration coalesced to get me started on Finding Mrs. Ford. First—and I say this only half facetiously—was the empty nest. I jokingly say that it took the youngest child leaving home for me to get the real estate in my brain back. To be clear, I LOVE my children and could not—would not—imagine my life without them. “I am missing those I love. That is how we say it in English, anyway. In French, it flips around to tu me manques. You are missing to me. You are missing from me.”
Deborah Goodrich Royce, Ruby Falls

“He is kind. He has almost every attribute that he needs to be successful in life. But he lacks some subtle discernment, some ability to judge character that, from time to time, lands him in settings like this one. Perhaps it is the gentle padding of privilege that allows him to assume the best of everyone.”
Deborah Goodrich Royce, Finding Mrs. Ford

“In Essentials, Unity: in Non-Essentials, Liberty: in All Things, Charity.”
