I’ve only gone and done it again. For the second year running those wonderful and astute people at The People’s Book Prize have shortlisted one of my novels for the fiction category prize (yes my novels are fiction). This time it is The Sword of Uncreation and it goes without saying that it is an amazing honour to, yet again, have my work recognised in such a way.

It isn't about the money
The other day I got my first royalty cheque. A momentous occasion and one that I was looking forward to. I had been plugging away and thought that I would perhaps put down a deposit on a speed boat or buy a small farm in Provence with the proceeds of my hard work.
Okay, unrealistic and me being silly. I am pragmatic and know that an unknown author writing comedy fantasies would not set the world on fire and it will take a long time to become an overnight success. The money was small but it was still a great feeling to see that I was being rewarded - just not in a big way.
But anyone that takes up writing just to make money is probably delusional. I do it for fun and anything else is a bonus.
The drinks are on me. Alright the big glass of cola and 150 straws are on me.
