Kenneth A. Baldwin writes stories that blur the lines between history, magic, dreams, and reality. He loves finding oddities in history books with unbelievable tales or unexplained phenomena. His first series, The Luella Winthrop Trilogy, takes place during just such a time when late 19th-century Victorians struggled to balance a surge of occultism and never-before-seen scientific advancements.

Before he started writing novels, Kenny paid his way through law school by writing, performing, and teaching humor. You can still catch him on stage or in corners of the Internet that feature sketch and improv comedy. Now, he lives nestled under the Wasatch Mountains with his wonderful wife, sons, and Golden Retriever.

Hello Clare! I'm glad you're enjoying the combination of magic and WWI aviation.
Sadly, I haven't yet read the WWI Biggles stories, though I've heard a lot of fun things about them, and they're certainly of a similar mood to Drops of Glass. I have them on my ever-growing TBR list.
To prepare for writing the book, I read several firsthand accounts from WWI pilots and aviation officers, which read almost like fiction for how distinct their voices and how exciting their missions were.
Some of my favorite fiction authors that proved quite helpful in preparation were Jeffery Shaara, Max Henessy, and Derek Robinson.
The research is some of my favorite part of writing, including good historical fiction in the space and non-fiction titles as well.
All the best!(less)

I Have Sharpened My Pen for Moments like This

I have sharpened my pen for moments like this,

Filled the knifepoint with enough ink to poison anyone.

And now that I’m wounded,

Examining my pride like a tire leaking air,

Hearing the sourceless hissing,

I find only that ink is useless in moments like this.

No bodies to staband no ears to hear it

Just the black of the barrel that holds my reserves…

If I could turn it out and dye the world over

Maybe
