Long Listed Twice for Chanticleer Review Book Awards

I just found out my published historical fantasy series, The Deliverance Series, has been long listed for the CIBA book awards through Chanticleer Book Reviews!

Not only that but my magical realism literary manuscript, Loud Voices, was long listed for the Contemporary and Literary Somerset Award by Chanticleer Book Reviews as well!

Fingers crossed for the next round of judging. It is truly an honor to have my work recognized by them!

Loud Voices is my manuscript up for consideration for publishers through my agent, Bob Diforio, of the D4EO Agency. It is a magical realism bildungsroman about a young woman with nonverbal autism who develops the ability to speak to people if she's touching them.

My Deliverance Series is a published historical fantasy series available everywhere books are sold. It's a swashbuckling adventure with sweet romance and tons of crazy twists. If you want a less explicit Fourth Wing, this series is for you!

Cheers and Happy New Year!

Conference Alert

Hi all,

I will be a panelist on at least three different panels at the Enter the Imaginarium Conference in Louisville, KY 14-16 July. I'll let you know when I find out which panels I will be on, but I am stoked. My friend, Author Matthew Leyshon practically bubbled over with praise for this conference and the friendly people there. I'm really excited. Cross your fingers for me that there will be a little space to sell some signed copies of my Deliverance Series.

If you're in the area, come check it out!

Cheers,

Dr. Sammy

The Writer's Gambit Collaboration by Author Samantha Schinder, Directed by Merlin Love

I'm really excited to announce Director Merlin Love and I's collaborative video production is now up on YouTube! Smoking Hamlet Productions.

It's part of a wider video series we're doing to document finding and rehabbing a period property for a writer's retreat.

This particular video in the collab speaks to my inspiration. Merlin's whiz-bang genius at all things film brought my writing to life.

Trigger warning- some of it might be hard to hear for those with PTSD or who have suffered assault.

Please check it out.

June 2023 Update

It’s been a heck of a year so far and it’s only half through!I just turned 38 this week. I haven’t posted an update in a while, so to catchyou up, I signed on about a year ago with the esteemed D4EO agency and with BobDiforio as my agent. He’s been guiding me along and I’m trying to be a goodnewbie and soak up all the knowledge I can. And not bug him too much. But asmuch as I write, I know I’m high maintenance!

We got some great feedback on my YA Welsh Witch fantasy thatwent out on sub around Thanksgiving, so I took that feedback and ran with it.So several edits later we’re pretty darn close to going back out on sub.

In the meantime, I’m getting eyes on my newest magicalrealism. I think it has a lot of potential. It’s got the feels! So far the feedbackon it has been phenomenal. I’m really jazzed about Loud Voices and hopefully wecan get it out on sub sometime soon depending on what work my agents thinks it needs or doesn't. Fingers crossed.

I’ve been poking at my prequel, Catalyst, to my Deliverance series. I have about 1/5 of its rough draft written. I know my fans are waitingfor it, so I’m trying not to put it off.

I’ve done several signing events, including at my favoritelocal bookstores, New and Olde Pages and Mulberry Street Books. More to come onmore signing events.

And finally, my author friend, Merlin Love, and I have thiscrazy scheme to open a writer’s retreat in Ireland so more to come on thatcrazy collab adventure. We plan on documenting and filming our adventures so it’sgoing to be hella fun. More details to come.

Love to you all,

Dr. Sammy

Hardbacks of the Deliverance Series are out on Amazon

Hardbacks now available on Amazon

For my diehard readers, hardbacks are now available on Amazon of the Deliverance series. They're not your typical dust-jacket type hardbacks. If you would like one of those, Barnes and Noble carries those of the series. They're printed on the hardback itself. Check out the proof I got of Liberty to see how it would look:

Pretty cool!
Cheers,Dr. Sammy

It's Liberty's Book Birthday!

It's the second in The Deliverance Series, Liberty's, book birthday!

Writing this book was a real treat for me. It takes the reader to a pseudo West Point Military Academy, only steeped in magic and cultural lore. Anyone who knows me knows I have a severe weakness for a gothic setting and you can't get more gothic than West Point. Now add dragons!

Liberty too was an awesome character write. Tough as nails and quick on the draw, she really speaks badass. But just like everyone, she struggles. She struggled to integrate to her new life away from the Gulak on the icy Rusky tundra where every day was a fight against everyone to survive. Now she must become part of a team...and it isn't easy for her given her traumatic past.

Eleanor Quentin is all grown up now and struggling with doubts of her own. She achieved fame as a magic malady healer early in her life because of her involvement with the Nar Problem. Now she's a fully fledged medical doctor. But questions arise as to the reality of the treatment of the Narisis. Brave as ever, though, she accepts an ambassadorial physician position to the enigmatic Westlands, a colony of the Arcanton empire, but where they have been losing their foothold for decades.

There's a host of new characters too that you meet. The cheeky Yvette. The mysterious May Lin. And my favorite is the Doctor Thomas Lawrence, a Stone Coat. The Deliverance series takes a turn into indigenous culture here as the magical timeline of this world does not mirror our own. I got to explore how the world would look if the alliance between the rebellious colonists and the Native Americans was stronger, more respectful. This theme continues on into the third and fourth books as well.
