Alison is a versatile author who artfully blends genres to create fast-paced, memorable stories, always keeping a woman’s quest for empowerment at the heart of her novels. There is a reason why she focuses on strong women who overcome adversity.

Alison admits to running away from kindergarten three times. In high school, the career counselor told her that her grades were too poor to consider attending college. She wanted to pursue martial arts as a teenager but was told she shouldn’t engage in karate because she would get hurt fighting men. She was cautioned about riding horses because of the incidence of severe injury. And finally, she wanted to match her skills in marksmanship with the boys but was told girls couldn’t shoot.

Thank you for contacting me! I don't have one favorite genre. I enjoy history, historic romance, mystery, spy thrillers, some general fiction, and a little bit of fantasy. Consequently, I don't write in one specific genre. (Yes, I know I should have a clear genre-specific brand.) The Touch the Sky Series blends history, fantasy, and romance. The Confederates' Physician is historic romance. The Assassin's Protege is spy thriller. The Ultimate Target is spy thriller with a twist of the cosmos . The only "brand" I have is writing about women overcoming adversity and emerging strong, triumphant, and, in some cases, formidable. I have placed them in contemporary as well as historic time periods. I would absolutely appreciate a review. Why don't you contact me via email (alisonblasdellnovels@gmail.com) and tell me which book(s) you would like to review, and I will mail a copy to you. Thank you again for your interest. I look forward to hearing from you!(less)

Hi Allison,
Thank you for contacting me. I'm sure it's different for every author, but I'm a highly organized person. I always make a sketchy outline. The outline is incomplete, but if a have scribble notes (which I have), I place those events on a timeline. How does the book start? How will it end? What scenes or events do I see happening? Sometimes I'll write pages that will fall somewhere in the middle of the book, but I want to get then down on paper--I'll fit them in later. And I must say, once I actually start writing the novel, the ideas flood my brain. As long as you have a general idea of the storyline, just start writing. A famous writer once said that the first draft is just getting the story written. Then read it. Then the writing really starts: you add, delete, re-organize, edit, & polish critically. I would really encourage you to just sit down & start writing. Think of it as a FUN thing to do. It's a treat! Don't be self-critical at this first step. No pressure at this stage! It's only for you. Hope this helps. I would love to hear how you're doing writing your first book! (less)

Please, Not Another Dead President's Home!

I began the research for my novel The Confederates' Physician years ago when my children were young. I employed my best subterfuge techniques to sneak detours to historic sites while on family trips. However, my daughters quickly discovered my ulterior motives.

From the back seat, I heard, “Not another battlefield, Mom. You do know how the Civil War ended, right?” Or, “Dad, how can Mom possibly fin Read more of this blog post »
