My Journey to Write a Cozy Mystery

This is probably going to be very boring to 99.9 percent of the world. Maybe I should make that 99.99999 percent of the world.  But it may help me to stay focused and to the one or two folks of that small percentile they might actually find this interesting, welcome! 🙂 I am working with […]

Playing free jigsaw puzzles online offers a wealth of benefits, making it a valuable pastime for people of all ages.

Yes, it’s not just for kids.

At least that’s my argument as I love playing them and I am uh, over sixty heading into the 70s lane.

Not only are the puzzles fun and engaging but they also provide numerous cognitive and mental health advantages.

Here’s a look at a few of them.

Older woman playing a Jigsaw puzzle COGNITIVE BENEFITS of Online Puzzles

Online jigsaw puzzles are excellent for boosting brain function.

They enhance:

Problem-solving skillsImprove short-term memoryIncrease attention to detail.

By regularly challenging the brain with puzzles, they can help to keep your mind sharp and potentially reduce the risk of cognitive decline as you age.

STRESS RELIEF AND RELAXATION

Basically, they are just fun.

I do some of my best creative thinking while idly looking for the next piece of the puzzle.

Other times when my brain seems to be overloaded with worry about one thing or another doing a puzzle is simply, pure play time.

I like to pick a puzzle image that fits whatever mood I want to switch my thinking into. Playful or restful. Dreamy or Renewing.

CONVENIENCE AND ACCESSIBILITY of Online Jigsaw Puzzles

One of the major advantages of online jigsaw puzzles is their convenience. You can play them anytime, anywhere, without the need for physical space to spread out puzzle pieces.

This makes it easy to fit puzzle-solving into a busy schedule, whether you’re on a commute, during a lunch break, or relaxing at home.

SOCIAL INTERACTION

This social aspect can enhance the enjoyment of the game and provide a sense of connection, especially for those who may be isolated or living far Many online jigsaw puzzle platforms offer multiplayer options, allowing you to collaborate with friends or family members.

(The puzzles on my site do not allow that currently).

VARIETY AND CUSTOMIZATION Online Jigsaw Puzzle Customization

Online platforms provide a vast array of puzzles with varying levels of difficulty, themes, and images.

This variety ensures that there’s always a new challenge waiting, catering to all preferences and skill levels.

The program I use, Jigsaw Explorer allowers users to select as few as 6 pieces for small children to 1040 pieces for a more expert level.

If you need a reminder what the finished puzzle looks like that’s just a click away.

Plus, you can choose to have the pieces rotate to add  more complexity.

And if you like doing the outline first before tackling all the middle stuff, a click of a button gives you just the outside edge pieces.

You can also select one of 12 different background colors to make the puzzle easier to see if the pieces and background do not have enough contrast. Or maybe like me, you just feel happier with a different color background!

Nothing & Everything

Yesterday started out a bit crazy and then continued crazy until finally life returned to normal in the late afternoon.  I don’t know who changed the dial for the day from normal to crazy but somehow it got changed and we had to go with it. Most of it started with what we thought might […]

Vancouver Ghosts with Jeff Davis

Ghosts in Vancouver, Washington An October Sunday afternoon was particularly spooky as a small group gathered at Covington House for a fireside chat of ghost encounters in the local area with author Jeff Davis. Reading from his latest book he selected little known stories and embellished them with facts and insights of personal encounters and […]

Happy Saint Bernard\’s

Happy Feet & Wagging Tails [image error]

This morning as I came to work at the Fort Vancouver Bookstore I noticed a happy gathering of Saint Bernard’s.

There was lots of friendly sniffs, wagging tails and excited greetings  as they prepared to take off for a “Fitness Walk.”

Too bad I had to mind the store as I would much rather have joined them for their happy walk!

Every Cat Should Have a Window

We have two cats in our house. Freddie is a feral rescue who lives  mostly downstairs in our TV room and the garage. He comes in the upstairs a bit in the morning and evening to check things out but mostly he wants his space and freedom from Scary Larry our adopted cat from the […]
