Stephen Howard (he/him) is an English novelist and short story writer from Manchester, now living in Cheshire with his wife, Rachel, and their daughter, Flo. He was always an avid reader but finally decided that, aged twenty, perhaps he too could write stories people might enjoy. This eventually led to the self-publication of his first novel, Beyond Misty Mountain (2013), inspired by an enduring love of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. Beyond Misty Mountain was rereleased in 2020.

Stephen has a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Creative Writing from the Open University, gaining First Class Honours. His short fiction has been published by Lost Boys Press, The No Sleep Podcast, Metastellar, and others. Stephen is also a x2 winner

Very much enjoyed dipping into the classics. I was relatively blind going in, so some of the plot twists etc I had no knowledge of.

Rebecca is a perfectly paced story that deftly handles so many competing conflicts. It always resolves and moves on ju

3.5 rounded up.

Victorian Psycho delivers on everything it promises, really. It’s humorous and witty, is a pretty scathing satire of the generationally wealthy, and builds towards a wildly violent conclusion. It’s plenty of fun, but is perhaps just a

Very much enjoyed this sci-fi / fantasy romp. I loved the set-up and the rpg type framing mashed up with a Battle Royale style situation and a capitalism/corporatism is evil theme worked perfectly. The charm is certainly in the characters of Carl of ...more

This was mostly a misfire for me, though I felt the second half was stronger than the first.

My biggest issue was the time it took for the meat (excuse the pun) of the story to get going. The first half sees very little happen, but involves lots of ex
