Roxanna López (Piedrafuette): I am a scientist turned-writer and blogger who recently had gone back to scientifice research and therefore I am not writing and blogging so much these days.

I was born and raised in the enchanted Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. I am a proud geek, curious, playful, and ever knowledge-hungry, with a broad range of interests. Destiny or a long series of random decisions, had pushed me to live, so far, in seven different countries on three continents. Nowadays, I live in Surrey, England with my awesome husband and his majesty, Maj the cat. Lizard-Monkeys and Other Stories is my first fiction publication. Before that, I have co-authored twenty-two peer-reviewed scientific papers, and a good practice guide on how to

I can write satyrical horror though. Let's see: "Right until that moment, I thought it was an unpleasant joke but I went to sleep that night with a feeling of dread that my husband thought was unjustified. I awoke in the morning with a heavy chest, I ran to the TV, put on the morning news: the most horrible-bizarre thing in the world has become true and I felt as if the whole of reality had been turned upside down, Donald Trump was elected president of the United States of America." For ideas I look everywhere, the news, I have bookmarked sites like NASA's webpage and SETI's webpage, I am suscribed to "la biblioteca virtual de Puerto Rico", but most important source of inspiration is people; I'm a dedicated observer of people and I find almost everybody I meet or run into deeply fascinating in their own different ways.(less)

Sway my whole being like a scattering of feathers on a cosmic score dance to the music In this post:

I wax poetically about the way I listen to music and why the act of listening to music is both sublime and draining for me. Hint: it sways my whole being like a scattering of feathers.

Beat, step, beat, sway, step. Th

Winter Stories by Ingvild H. Rishøi
"Three excellent, atmospheric and moving short stories about people doing it tough, surviving and needing some help. I got drawn in to all three and found it hard to put down till I’d finished each one.
Lovely writing."

It is, after all, a novel by a master story teller with an incomparable style. However, it left me feeling sad, discouraged, and that is where the stars are lost for me. These days, there is

“I don't know if I thought of anything in particular, but I remember distinctly a creamy, yellow sun that was warm on my neck, a breeze that lifted the smell of laundry detergent from the washer's bowl and spread it around me like a ribbon of scent.”
Roxanna Piedrafuette, Lizard-Monkeys and Other Stories

“Incluso en esos días cuando el mundo la drenaba de toda su fe, François era para ella como la tibieza del pan recién horneado en la mañana y como el crujido del pasto al viento en un jardín lleno de sol.

Del cuento 'Ulla y Salman', de la versión es español de mi libro, 'Monos o Lagartijos' a estrenarse en Noviembre de 2019.”
Roxanna Piedrafuette

“While the idea of equal time for opposing opinions makes sense in a two-party political system, it does not work for science, because science is not about opinion. It is about evidence.”
Naomi Oreskes, Merchants of Doubt: How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco Smoke to Global Warming

“Incluso en esos días cuando el mundo la drenaba de toda su fe, François era para ella como la tibieza del pan recién horneado en la mañana y como el crujido del pasto al viento en un jardín lleno de sol.

“The fact is that in two unhappy years, working in isolation except for Gosling, in a field new to her, she had come within two steps of answering the most exciting question in post-war science. What is more, she, unknowingly, had provided all the essential data for those who took the two brilliant leaps of intuition — to anti-parallel chains and base pairs — that cracked the problem.”
Brenda Maddox, Rosalind Franklin: The Dark Lady of DNA

“We can think of the difference between math and science in terms of possible worlds. Math is concerned with truths that would hold in any possible world: given these axioms, these theorems will follow. Science is all about discovering the actual world in which we live.”
Sean Carroll, The Big Picture: On the Origins of Life, Meaning, and the Universe Itself

“I don't know if I thought of anything in particular, but I remember distinctly a creamy, yellow sun that was warm on my neck, a breeze that lifted the smell of laundry detergent from the washer's bowl and spread it around me like a ribbon of scent.”
