Hilary Emerson Lay grew up in Brewster, Massachusetts. She has a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing, with a concentration in Children's Book Writing and Illustration, from Emerson College. For ten years Hilary managed The Spirit of '76 Bookstore in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
