Superman by Alvin Schwartz

This is a two star book all the way: the stories are not very good, the dialog strained, and only Wayne Boring's misguided fans will appreciate his lumpy art and lack of storytelling acumen. ...more

Becky Shaw by Gina Gionfriddo

This play has the reputation of being very witty and clever. I find that it strains to be witty and clever falling a little short of both. It does not help that all the characters are jerks.

Romeo and Juliet by Gareth Hinds
Rate this book
Clear rating
There is some good visual storytelling here and there, so Hinds clearly thought this out, but I do not find his rendering pleasing or compelling. It just kind of sits there.

I did not like the first few issues in this graphic collection, too many badass "I'm going to kill you" statements. Contrast this with the different approach to a similar problem in the ending. This is enlightened writing and quite beautiful. ...more

Rabbit at Rest by John Updike

The best thing about this John Upchuck mediocrity is the title and the death of HE near the end of the book. I find Updike's style too bland and his characters so obnoxious that Harry's death is most devoutly to be wished. ...more
