THE ARM COLLECTOR out now! - April update

A detective stumbles into a reality-bending case in which she has more in common with the perpetrator than she thinks, and the sinister presence behind it all finds amusement in the things we do for love.

The Arm Collector, my horror/mystery short story, is now free to read as part of the Shadows & Signals: Speculative Mysteries anthology for Frivolous Comma!

Please right click + open image on the site to see that beautiful illustration by Sarah Hofheins, I love her work and she absolutely nailed...

March update - The Arm Collector, Silenci 2nd edition, and swordfish

A detective stumbles into a reality-bending case in which she has more in common with the perpetrator than she thinks, and the sinister presence behind it all finds amusement in the things we do for love. The Arm Collector, my mystery/horror/urban fantasy short story, has been accepted for publication this spring in the Shadows & Signals anthology by Frivolous Comma! Make sure to check them out and follow me Bluesky, Patreon (free), or right here to receive a notification when it comes out.

February update - More origami, carnival season, WIP research, etc.

It's been a wild couple of months, hasn't it?

Okay, what have I been up to. Let's see. My wife has been doing an art class for kids and I've been showing them origami while they wait for their parents to pick them up at the end, as a bonus. Apparently the one time I didn't show up because I got caught up at work they rioted, so that was funny. They really liked this mountain goat uhhh... bighorn sheep? that I brought for show and tell purposes.

Design by John Montroll.

By the way, I posted an origa...

January update - WIP check

I did say I'd try to post monthly, let's see if it sticks.

First of my big WIPs is a novel set in my werewolf-ridden medieval village setting, Abadosos. Not really a sequel to Silenci, but definitely set in the same place. I may have to retcon some background things but hey, what can ya do? Thematically speaking, this novel is kind of an opposite direction to Silenci, so it was a bit wild for me to come to terms with that, lol. Progress: drafting, 50k out of... 80k? I'm not good at estimating wo...

Hello again, world

I'm starting this blog again. Except now it's on Blogger? Yeah.

I'll be porting some/most of my old content on here, but I'll be doing it manually, so it might take a while. I also can't promise consistency, because I tend to get in over my head and stick to a strict schedule for about a couple of months and then trail off. I guess I'll post whenever I have something to say, or whenever I find something cool to share. About once a month, probably. Writing prompts are always fun, though I almost n...

Outlining: The Virgo Way

I’m gonna start this off by saying I’m not a horoscope nut. I’m not! I don’t superstitiously believe in star signs, but I like to believe in them. There’s lots of things I like to believe.

Anyways.

For my July Camp NaNo project, I decided to re-outline my biggest baddest fantasy WIP, because it just wasn’t working for me in its current form. And I hadn’t re-outlined since like, 2016 (about draft 2), so yeah. I’m in draft 4.2 now, and my goal for July is to spend a total of 60 hours preparing...

Review: Abbott by Saladin Ahmed

[image error]Cover art by Taj Tenfold.

I’m back at it with the reviews! I know my reviews aren’t usually very timely, but honestly I just want to rant about books. Anyways!

This is the first work I’ve read by Saladin Ahmed and wowee it did NOT disappoint. I read it in one sitting, as I usually do with comics and graphic novels, so a reread addition to this review will be due soon. BUT FOR NOW. Here I go.

This review does NOT contain specific spoilers, but it DOES mention some tropes without saying names. ...

Life update: #SilenciLaunchParty, The Rite Of Movement, possible Patreon

Here’s a long-due update on what I’m doing. Today at midday EST (GMT-5) I’m hosting a twitter launch party for Silenci! There will be giveaways and a livestream in the afternoon, don’t miss it!

Also, I’m in the process of writing a sort of fairytale! It’s like a musical but in novella form! I’m using Hozier songs and though I don’t use the lyrics directly in the narrative, I name chapters after songs according to the common theme and put a small extract at the beginning of each chapter. The f...

Ten Lyrics To Write About - Benjamin Clementine edition

I have my girl to thank for introducing this artist to me, and I think everyone should know about him.

You know the drill. Roll a d10 (or generate a random number from 1 to 10). Compare it with the list below. Write something based on the result! You don't actually have to have heard the song, you can just read the quote and let your imagination fly! Share it in the comments— or not, I’m not the boss of you.

When I go to bed in the night, I see some children in the light, fighting unknown shado...
