Hi Khira,
Thank you again for your beautiful review of GoldenEars: The Whispering Mountain. I am thrilled that you enjoyed the book.
To answer your question about The Pale Skulls, yes the second book is darker and takes the reader on a journey with Edmund to find his wolf. The mystery unfolds when Edmund learns of his wolf’s true identity, and the role that he also must play.
It is an emotional read, deeper and heartwarming with many twists in the storyline. I hope you enjoy it, and yes a supernatural element pervades right to the final climactic scene in the book.
Thanks Khira.

“His father had warned him before he’d died: ‘Be wary, for they are selfish and cruel and will hunt us to the last. Stay alert, Joel!’ his father had said. ‘They can kill you from a distance with their long sticks that make a noise, and traps that jump out of the ground. Beware of the smooth ground, Joel, and listen to the birds.’

Quote from Joel, the alpha grey wolf. A wise and cunning leader of the pack.”
Jane H. Wood, The Whispering Mountain

“And when, on the still cold nights,
he pointed his nose at a star and howled long
and wolflike, it was his ancestors, dead and dust, pointing nose at star and howling down through the centuries and through him.
Jack London, The Call Of The Wild”
Jane H. Wood

“The wolf is neither man’s competitor nor his enemy. He is a fellow creature with whom the earth must be shared.

“We have doomed the wolf not for what it is, but for what we deliberately and mistakenly perceive it to be –the mythologized epitome of a savage ruthless killer – which is, in reality, no more than a reflected image of ourself.”
Farley Mowat, Never Cry Wolf: The Amazing True Story of Life Among Arctic Wolves

“Thanks to all the wonderful authors for giving us the opportunity to join them on their journeys or adventures and leave our everyday trials and tribulations behind, even for just a little while.”
D.R. Hamilton, Angel Spirit of Retribution

“All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.”
Richard Adams, Watership Down
