Haley Anna Marie writes dark mythic fantasy where fate is cruel and love is tragic. Known for twisty plots, unpredictable endings, and subverting popular tropes, her Elementas series blends elemental magic, complicated characters, and divine meddling into gripping stories of endurance, sacrifice, and survival.

Storytelling has been her passion since childhood. With a psychology degree and a minor in criminology, she now balances life as a stay-at-home mom to identical twin boys while channeling her passion into worlds of grit and myth.

I felt like the book lost its usual humor after a certain character was introduced, which was kind of a bummer, but I still enjoyed the book as a whole. The narrator really sells the story.

The beginning felt so messy, but I did like it once they went out to sea and there after, although I could have done without all the nautical jargon. The ending convinced me to move on to the third book.

I really liked the premise and some parts, but other parts felt flat or pointless, and the ending went on and on.

Even though the constant world building gave me a headache, and some parts just felt boring, I absolutely loved the banter and Locke’s antics.

Elm’s and Ione’s romance felt so forced that it almost ruined the whole book for me. But I love the Nightmare, and he saved the day.
Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch
"Very long and technical with the nautical terms. Locke and Jean still make it worth reading, and that ending was quite expressive."
