Yes, writing can be hard work, but it is also fun. I love to be able to share with others lessons I have learned through my nearly three-quarters of a century of living, whether it be in the form of fiction or non-fiction.(less)

If you have a burning desire to write and have a story to tell, or something to teach, just start writing. Don't get discouraged when you find you need to rewrite and revise, cut out parts and add in parts, rearrange what you thought was already in the right order. Don't fall into the trap of thinking your book is finished when you complete the first draft. I have heard it said that it is 20% writing and 80% revising. But when you finish, you will have something worthwhile to share with the world.(less)

I APOLOGIZE–AGAIN!

I just wanted to let my readers know that my main website–diane-stephenson.com–where my posts here are redirected, was taken down. I am not sure when or why that happened, but I unfortunately did not have any of my posts backed up, so they are no longer available.

I used to type up my posts and save my files to my computer, but recently I lost all of my documents there, too, so what I might have b

J.R.R. Tolkien
“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Frank Zappa
“So many books, so little time.”
Frank Zappa

Stephen  King
“Books are a uniquely portable magic.”
Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

Neil Gaiman
“Start telling the stories that only you can tell, because there’ll always be better writers than you and there’ll always be smarter writers than you. There will always be people who are much better at doing this or doing that - but you are the only you.

Tarantino - you can criticize everything that Quentin does - but nobody writes Tarantino stuff like Tarantino. He is the best Tarantino writer there is, and that was actually the thing that people responded to - they’re going ‘this is an individual writing with his own point of view’.

There are better writers than me out there, there are smarter writers, there are people who can plot better - there are all those kinds of things, but there’s nobody who can write a Neil Gaiman story like I can.”
Neil Gaiman

Walt Whitman
“Afoot and lighthearted I take to the open road, healthy, free, the world before me.”
Walt Whitman
