It may sound strange but BOW DOWN was supposed to be a book about gaining power over your personal finances.

I wanted to write a fun, juicy book about how to gain confidence over your money and career. But when I started interviewing the dommes, I started to realize that I had a lot more questions for them beyond just budgeting and salary negotiation. I started having so many profound realizations about how I was living my own life and handling my own career, confidence, and relationships, that it became more of personal story about power. (less)

“Asking ourselves who we are means reckoning with who we were. This can be terrifying, because it also requires us to examine how we’ve changed. But by not asking, we’re not serving ourselves, we’re serving others. We’re serving society’s expectations, the needs of our partners, our children, our bosses, even strangers. Everyone gets what they want from you, but at the end of the day, you’re left with the scraps.”
