Books and Tunes (the radio show!)

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying producing my radio programme, Books and Tunes for West Wilts Radio, which, surprisingly enough, features some chat about books and some music!

You can find them by typing in Books and Tunes Chris Penhall listen again. and my latest features Ben Aitken talking about his latest book, Sh*tty Breaks, and independent authors, D Wells, Mark Butterworth and Claire Buss. And the playlist is inspired by A Midsummer Nights Dream which I saw at the Bridge Theatre recently.

Workshops and podcasts

I’ve been a bit busy of late organising things and branching out a bit, so I have neglected my blog.

But now I’m back with lots of news. I’m still writing, but I’m doing other writing-releated work too.

Bring a sense of place and atmosphere to your writing

Firstly, I recently ran a writing workshop at @Create98 in Leigh on Sea, and I absolutely loved it and got a lot out of it. In fact I’m bringing the Creative Writing Refresh  back on June 11th. It costs £25, runs from 7pm till 9pm and is in a great venue. For more information and to buy tickets, click here https://create98.co.uk/event/creative-writing-refresh/

I’m also running a new workshop called Bring a Sense of Place at Atmosphere to Your Writing. It’s on May 19th from 7pm till 9pm and you can get more information and book tickets, by clicking below.

As well as that I’ve been busy podcasting. If you are on Substack you can listen to my occasion podcast-ette (my short podcast) called Novelist Chris Penhall chats about Writing and Stuff, in which I read out a passage from one of my novels and explain how and why I wrote it. The most recent of which is New Beginnings at the Little House in the Sun. You can listen to it here:

https://chrispenhallauthor.substack.com/p/novelist-chris-penhall-on-writing-114

And then there’s the Chris and Lizzie’s Random Bookish Chats podcast with fellow author, Lizzie Chantree, we chat for 20 minutes about various writing and book related subjects, sometimes on location (a cafe actually). Its on Spotify, Amazon Music and Audible: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7oHSit8azjwDYfZNKPHGrY

I’m also involved in three events at this year’s Essex Book Festival, but I’ll save that for next time!

Morton S Gray’s blog – Chris Penhall’s favourite place

When my friend and fellow Choc-Lit author Morton S Gray asked if I’d like to write something about my favourite place, I jumped at the opportunity.

Given my Portuguese-set novel, The House That Florence Left has just been published, and its located in Lagos in the Algarve, its no surprise that its one of my favourite place. But where are some of my favourite places in one of my favourite place…?
