Keriann McGoogan The events that I write about in this book happened more than 10 years ago, and I honestly didn't ever think I would write about them--that trip to Ma…moreThe events that I write about in this book happened more than 10 years ago, and I honestly didn't ever think I would write about them--that trip to Madagascar was tough and the rescue mission was even tougher, so it took a while before I was ready to share exactly what happened.

Even though it was a difficult first trip, there is something so special about Madagascar, the wildlife, and the Malagasy people that I kept going back to that country--for my field work, and to help out on my partner's field work. But still, I didn't expect to write this book.

Then one summer--10 years after that very first trip--I started paging through one of my old field journals. I sat down at a computer, and the words came out. The story that I wrote was about that first trip to Madagascar, yes, but it was also a love letter to a beautiful country that I couldn't have written until now.(less)
