Practice Gratitude with Your Children (Gratitude and Children)
One way to have well-rounded, happy children is to teach them about gratitude. As a parent and your child's first teacher, it's important to show them how to be grateful. Their little eyes are always watching, so be sure that you're practicing gratitude daily so your child knows what it looks like.
Gratitude is an easy practice, and once you get used to doing it, it becomes second nature. You can try making a list or use a gratitude journal to keep track of everything you are thankful for, and soon, you will notice that the more you focus on the positive, the less negativity you will see. Life can be pretty hectic at times, so try using sticky notes and place them around the home to remind yourself of your blessings.
As your child sees you doing these things, they will soon start expressing gratitude themselves.
Here are some examples to help you teach gratitude to your child:
BE VOCAL - USE GRATITUDE AFFIRMATIONS
"I am so blessed to have Jen as my best friend."
"I am so blessed to have Amy as my sister."
"I am thankful for this meal."
"I feel grateful for our family and friends."
"I love you so much and feel so blessed to have you as my child."
TEACH THEM TO HELP OTHERS:
"Today, we are going to do a food shop for your grandparents."
"Today, we are going to help clean grandma's house."
"I'm going to pick up some chicken soup for dad; he's not feeling well."
"Let's help dad take out the trash."
"Let's help mom put away the laundry."
TEACH KINDNESS:
Smile, say hello.
Ask someone about their day.
Leave a kindness note for a loved one to see.
Say please and thank you often.
Write out a thank you card.
Donate toys, books, or clothes to others in need
Give a gift to someone special to show you care.
You will find there are many benefits of practicing gratitude.
You and your children can easily live a happy and positive life by following the simple examples above.
