Need Beta Readers

I'm in need of beta readers for feedback on the story. I want to make sure I got the story down before I send it to the editor. I had complaints in the past for grammar, tense issues, and all kinds of other stuff. So I'm doing what people are complaining about and looking for people to make sure I don't have that issue! Those who want to talk their talk, I'm opening this up to you.

Revisions to Recessive gift

I would like to share my other novel Recessive gift Progress on the editing. I feel like it's more of an improvement from what I originally had it. Of course, I would be looking it over more times with my editor before we feel like it perfected to go back on the market.

Zena drove her navy blue 2009 Jeep Cherokee through the deserts near the Grand Canyon. For the last three days, the lone traveler’s only foot in reality was the various genres of music from alternative rock down to music from all over the world. If she didn't have her various genres of music, then it would have been one hell of a silent ride cross country. Currently, Runaway by Linkin Park sparked Zena's energy as the song almost matched her current mood.
As the sky turned colors from the sun going to the horizon, Zena thought about why she left for her journey. Throughout her life, she would listen to her family suggestions, thinking they had her best interest in mind; however, the suggestions ended up making her miss many opportunities. She regretted trusting their advice, her family will not hold her back anymore and neither will anyone else. Sighing heavily, she gripped irritatingly on her steering wheel, going deeper into her thoughts.
Zena observed even family would oppress their own relatives and be toxic with each other. It wasn't until she was an adult; she realized how her family was greedy and miserable from their life mistakes. The atmosphere they created was so toxic it left her isolated and feeling unwelcome and she didn't want to live in a family like that anymore.
With the loss of an opening to follow her dreams and the loss of her father, she finally had enough. She wasn't going to be guilt-tripped to become trapped in a life she didn't want at 24-years-old. The young Black American woman learned late in life she didn't need anyone telling her how she should live her life or what to do. Family or not, she didn't have to put up with them trying to control her life or being pressured to do something.
Zena leaned her elbow on her door as she used it as a prop so she could rest her head on the palm of her hand. She thought about her family history as a whole. She knew her father's family migrated to Texas because it had more job opportunities. Unfortunately, like most Black Americans her family didn’t get the opportunities they deserve and fell into oppression, drugs, and ignorance. No one tried to go to college and some ended up as statistics of single mothers who got knocked up by their boyfriends or husbands who ran out on them. They added to the percentage of young women getting pregnant as teenagers or other forms of stereotypes for young black women. A cycle that repeats itself. Even her parents fell into the statistics, regrettably. With her family being Christians, saying it was God's plan didn’t help with thinking they should do better. Yes, some of the men stayed or took care of their kids but only a hand full. Whatever happened to them was “God's will” and they should follow it blindly. It irritated her; if only her family hadn't fallen into oppression, then they could have been successful in life from breaking down the barriers that held them back.
The young woman reminisced about her childhood and how different she was from other little girls. She enjoyed watching science fiction, anime ,fantasy, and reading comics to help to deal with the toxic atmosphere she was around. Huffing in frustration, the black nerd or more commonly known among the nerd community blerd, scrunched her nose as her mouth curved while voices of everyone telling her in negative ways and tones that she had too much of an imagination and acts weird like a “white person”. Everything she ever have done earned her stigma and called “wanna be white” by her relatives and strangers of the same race as her. Her body tensed as she wanted to curl into a ball as the voices continued, but she couldn’t because she was driving. Some of those voices suggested that some of the stuff she watched was the work of the devil and she needed to be involved in church more. Rolling her eyes as she thought to herself sarcastically, ‘Pssh like the devil is real.’ Zena liked what she like and there was no way in hell she would stop loving her interest because of someone else’s toxic views.

“How do I say goodbye to what we had…… It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.”

Once Zena heard those words to the most famous song in the 90’s, tears instantly fell down her cheeks as her chest went tight thinking about her father. The song continued making her eyes go cloudy as she cried more. Her father was a good man, but he made terrible choices sometimes. It wasn’t until Zena was born that he wanted to attempt to make better ones. He spoiled her like a princess and did everything most men probably wouldn’t do for little girls. He did her hair, polished her nails, took her shopping for training bras and pads and even took her to get birth control when she started to get sexually active when she got out of high school. Watching her father as she grew up, Zena promised herself that she would do better and not become a stereotype or a statistic. She would be true to herself, though sometimes a bad choice could put you somewhere someone doesn’t want to be when you take terrible advice from others.

When Zena’s father died, she lost a part of her soul and the rock that kept her grounded. Her father was everything to her and she was everything to him. There was nowhere for her to go, and she wasn’t close to her mother so it felt awkward for her to stay with her suddenly. Staying in Texas with family would lead to more bad decisions and continuous spiral loops of the same thing. People whispering in her ear “suggestions” of what she should do with her life or how to live it.

Zena didn’t want that path; she just wanted to explore the endless possibilities until she could find the right fit no matter how long it would take. No more letting someone else pull her strings away from where she wanted to go. Once she had enough money, Zena packed her stuff, changed her number and left early that morning without a single word. Her plans were to erase everything and everyone in her life to start fresh. Where she goes would be whatever she felt like it, which is why she’s now wandering the outskirts of the Grand Canyon reflecting on her decision.

What to look foward in the near future

By next year there will be a noticeable change in my writing style. As I'm a new author I'm pretty sure I'm not going to gasp people like how I wanted. If anyone don't like my books then I hope you give book two for both of my stories a chance. I can't grantee that you would come to like my work or stories, but I can ensure people today that there are going to be major differences in my work.
