Chris Adams's Blog: Sword of Vengeance and the Artifacts of the Yellow Bear

redreviews4you review of SoV

“Sword of Vengeance was the kind of fantasy I didn’t realize I’d been craving until I was already knee‑deep in swords, armor, and the slow building of a quest‑bound companionship. Chris Adams pulled me straight back to my teen years with Dungeons & Dragons and Dragonlance, when epic quests easily won out over Algebra homework. Some things never change — because now I’m leaving dishes in the sink and paperwork beside my laptop as I follow Gerald Caelen on his journey to defeat Adrian Zartun.

This is the kind of High Fantasy that still works for me: a clear goal, a dangerous path, dark magic shaping the world, and characters who must stay alive, stay true to themselves, and fight back against the evil pressing in on all sides. It’s not about potions or romance or creature‑collecting — it’s about people wrestling with consequences, surviving the fallout of choices they never wanted to make, and pushing forward anyway.” -redreviews4you

talesandterracotta review of Sword of Vengeance

"I felt the novel moved quickly, keeping the focus on high stakes and constant momentum (which I loved), while keeping the story balanced with Gerald’s internal conflict between duty and vengeance created emotional depth to the journey. Fans of classic fantasy (such as LOTR, GoT, Sword of Truth ) with familiar elements such as knights, sorcery, and a looming battle between light and darkness will find this a compelling and entertaining read just as I did!"

A few thoughts on finding an interested audience as a author

Here are a few lessons I took away from trying to grow my book audience in 2025 as a first-time novelist:

1. 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Know what makes your product or service different and highlight it clearly for the right buyer.
2. 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬 ≠ 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Attention without purchase intent isn’t always worth the expense.
3. 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁.. IF you’re building it with the right audience, even when today isn’t the buying moment.
4. 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡: Relevance beats scale. Find your people.
5. 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥: Real feedback beats assumptions... but only if you apply what you learn.
6. 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬: Not everyone can be reached in the same places or in the same ways.
7. 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫: The same tactic won’t always yield the same result when used again.
8. 𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬: Readers trust readers. This is why reviews are such powerful social proof.

Publishing a fiction novel reinforced the same truth I’ve seen in retail:
𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭.

Which of these lessons resonates most with your own experience?
