K.R. Fraser spent her childhood in Europe, visited multiple countries and experienced different cultures around the globe. She is fluent in three languages and knowledgeable in four more. How do you deal with writer’s block?

When you get writer's block, step away from your computer for awhile and defrag. by doing something completely different that you enjoy, whether it's a video game, going for walks in the woods with a camera, or having lunch with a friend. Changing up the routine and getting in much needed down-time is going to help. When you push yourself because you "want to get in that daily word count" you are only sabotaging yourself. It should always be about the quality and not the quantity of what you are writing. You can write 20 chapters in a day and have them be total garbage, or take your time, only write 1 page, and have it be a scene that blows the readers away.

I am not saying that you should not strive to write as much as you can. However, it will not matter how much you write if it is not good enough to sell. A bad work is a bad work, no matter how many words you dump into it. So rather than pushing yourself to the point of being brain-fried, don't be afraid to step away for a few hours or even days if you need them. Pace yourself so you don't get burned out. The ideas and words will come if you remember to take time out for yourself.(less)

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

I have spent so much time there in world-building and creation, and know the characters so well, that I would feel right at home.

What would I do there? Lose myself in the intricacies of their lives and the amazing diversity that exists there.(less)

What Every Author Needs To Know

Greetings to all authors and readers.

Today, I want to address something that I have repeatedly seen among the authors here that both worries and concerns me.

First, let me introduce myself. My name is K.R. Fraser, and I am an author. I am also the owner and CEO of Dragonrock Press. We are a small, independent publishing company, and we only represent a small number of clients at any given time. Now Read more of this blog post »
