J. Ivanel Johnson is the pen name for an author with (dis)Ability who now lives in the Appalachian range of Northwestern New Brunswick on a small farm overlooking inspirational views. Her cozy mystery series, the JUST (e)STATE is set in the Canadian provinces of NB, Ontario and Yukon.
Like her grandmother before her (the 'Ivanel' of her pen name) she has written her entire life, first publishing two poems with Annick Press in Toronto when she was only 11. She has been a high school English and Drama teacher, working and living in the highlands of Scotland, the moors of Yorkshire, and the Rockies of Montana and the Yukon, before settling in the east of Canada.

You’ve hit upon one of the major problems associated with writing historical fiction, a real dilemma when the genre is historical mystery. Which real events does the author weave into the story to create the atmosphere of time and place without distr See Rosemary’s answer.
J. Johnson liked an answer from Patricia Rosemoor:
