K.T. Sterling heeft altijd graag verhaaltjes geschreven, maar ze had nooit de gedachte om schrijver te worden. Tot ze op haar negentiende gedwongen zelf naar de pen greep omdat ze vreemde dromen kreeg en er personages in haar hoofd rondwaarden die smeekten om gekend te worden. Zo is haar steampunk/victorian high fantasy boekenreeks ‘Testra’ ontstaan en daarbij ook de droom om schrijfster te worden. Ze is blijven schrijven, zelfs na haar opleiding criminologie, door de vele administratieve jobs heen die haar niets anders brachten dan depressies en burn-outs. Op die manier had ze een eerste manuscript klaar. Ze had ook een manuscript klaar voor een vervolg en ideeën voor een derde boek in de reeks.
