When I was writing my first book post-it notes and visual mapping -- literally pinning things to the wall -- was what worked for me. Notecards, a strategy recommended to me by my mentor, went out the window a few days in. For my upcoming book, a three-ring binder has been my best friend. Don't beat your head against a notecard or notebook. Stay curious, and keep trying new things until something sticks. Happy writing!(less)

The leaf on the front cover of the book is the image of a scanned leaf that I found on a walk; it was a major source of visual inspiration throughout the writing process. I suppose the four seasons were also a large source of inspiration for how the book's four chapters are organized as well. (less)

What is one story you wish you told better? And, to whom? Everyone has a story to tell. It is central to what makes us human. And, whether you are developing a presentation complete with visual aids for work – the guiding impetus for Resonate – or you simply want to better tell people who you are, what you do and why you are doing it, amazing lessons are to be found in Nancy Duarte’s Resonate. “I read so I can live more than one life in more than one place.”
Anne Tyler

Pema Chödrön
“The only reason we don't open our hearts and minds to other people is that they trigger confusion in us that we don't feel brave enough or sane enough to deal with. To the degree that we look clearly and compassionately at ourselves, we feel confident and fearless about looking into someone else's eyes. ”
Pema Chodron

Isabel Allende
“The longer I live, the more uninformed I feel. Only the young have an explanation for everything.”
Isabel Allende, City of the Beasts

Haruki Murakami
“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.”
Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood

Rainer Maria Rilke
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”
Rainer Maria Rilke
