Wade Lake owns and manages a small art gallery and gift shop on a street popular with tourists from around the world. He enjoys conversations with strangers, challenging hikes, and occasional skinny dipping.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wade Lake constructs his narratives with one mystery on the page and a second underneath or between the lines. The story on top is suspenseful, romantic, and darkly whimsical. The story underneath is far more mischievous. He likes surprise endings.

Fast and fun read. Likable characters w/o relationship drama or dark, mysterious pasts. Loved it.

“The two things Mack loves most in life are holding Chase at the close of the day and holding Chase in the first light of dawn. Every day begins and ends on a foam mattress with the man he loves.”
Wade Lake, Pipe

“Mack grew up in this swampy city. For tourists, the party begins and ends at dawn. For Mack, the day begins with fog on his headlights and a toolbox in the back of his truck; it ends with a man he loves in his arms and a to-do list just as long as when the day began. The first and last items on that list: a man named Chase.”
Wade Lake, Pipe

“States vote to take away my marriage rights, and even though I don’t want to get married, it tends to hurt my feelings. I guess what bugs me is that it was put to a vote in the first place. If you don’t want to marry a homosexual, then don’t. But what gives you the right to weigh in on your neighbor’s options? It’s like voting on whether or not redheads should be allowed to celebrate Christmas.”
David Sedaris, Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls

“as elusive as a fleck of shell in a pool of slippery egg white.”
Wendy Corsi Staub, All the Way Home

“The consolidation of power at the federal level in the guise of public safety is a national trend and should be guarded against at all costs. This erosion of rights, however incremental, is the slow death of freedom. We have reached a point where the power of the federal government is such that they can essentially target anyone of their choosing. Recent allegations that government agencies may have targeted political opponents should alarm all Americans, regardless of party affiliation. Revisionist views of the Constitution by opportunistic politicians and unelected judges with agendas that reinterpret the Bill of Rights to take power away from the people and consolidate it at the federal level threaten the core principles of the Republic. As a free people, keeping federal power in check is something that should be of concern to us all. The fundamental value of freedom is what sets us apart from the rest of the world. We are citizens, not subjects, and we must stay ever vigilant that we remain so.”
Jack Carr, The Terminal List
