Angel Van Atta writes horror as a way to spread the same kind of hope that she so needed as a little girl and outside of the world of fiction only really ever found as an adult. The kind of hope that tells you that good often overcomes evil and that anything is possible if you just believe. Her stories are vivid and chilling as well as heartwarming and fast paced. She invites you to walk with her in her imagination. A place that can be just as dark as it is light.

It was a scary and confusing time for me and most of the issues I struggle with today stem from the abuse by my father and that I witnessed him do onto others. Mella was born from a request by my crisis counselor to find a way to give the child I was the love she never had and so desperately needed and the beginning of that lack of love was when my father stole me away. My mother was fighting Hodgkin's Disease when he took me and she died soon after I was returned. She had been my main source of love and her death left a dark void, not just in me, but everyone around me. I think it was hard for loved ones of hers to fully embrace me after my return because the stress of me being taken by someone whom she knew was abusive in many different ways was too great on her already struggling body and she may have won her battle had it not been for my being taken. Mella is more than just a character on a page. She's my way of rescuing myself from a past that still haunts me and in allowing her to take my hand I've allowed myself to heal in ways I never thought possible. Thank you for walking with her through those tall trees. And thank you for taking her hand when she needed to run. (less)

There may be a thousand times when you want to stop and start over because you may think it's not good enough, but just don't. Keep going. Tell yourself that you can fix any mistakes you want in editing, but for now the most important thing is getting to the end. And often times when you get there you'll realize that the words knew where they were going the whole time and you'll find that what you have is a beautiful finished book! (less)

In the Tall Trees by Angel N. Van Atta
"I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump. Started several books lately that I just could get into. Not necessarily DNFs. Just not the right time.

This short read broke the pattern.

The author did an excellent job depicting how a child’s innocence, ignor" Read more of this review »
In the Tall Trees by Angel N. Van Atta
"This book was so good! So well written for a child’s point of view. My heart was tied up continuously and the tension was so nerve wracking. I really am intrigued to see where things go in book two! "

The Child by Angel N. Van Atta
"This was a fairly gruesome read, but actually really addictive once I’d read a few chapters. A child being possessed by a part demon isn’t a blurb that would usually pull me in, but it was well-written, as realistic as it could be for the genre & end" Read more of this review »
