Hi! I'm Shannon, a self-published author. My first novel was published in 2019 when I, myself, was 19. Though my debut novel was a Christian contemporary, I love writing fantasy and am currently working on a fun medieval fantasy that I can't wait to release to the world!

As for reading, I have never been a big reader, but since September 2020, I have been trying to change that and read more. I enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary, historical, thriller-- just about any fiction novel with a good plot and characters I can fall in love with (and at least a smidge of romance 😉).

Someone asked me recently (as of May 2021) a very interesting question: who do I write for? After brief consideration, I decided that my answer is threefold.

Someone asked me recently (as of May 2021) a very interesting question: who do I write for? After brief consideration, I decided that my answer is threefold.

I write for myself first. When inspiration strikes and I have an exciting new book idea, I don't start planning and writing it because I think it will be a best seller or other people will love it. I write it because *I* love it. I think it is an amazing story that deserves to be told, I get excited about it, so I write it.

I write for my characters second. They demand their story be told, and so I tell it (though all too often they change the narrative along the way, twisting the story in directions that I hadn't planned).

Finally, I write for my readers. As the excitement of a new book begins to fade, I think of all of the people who might fall in love with the characters and the story, but they can't do that unless I write the story. And so I do. Though readers are not my first priority, they are important to me. I want to craft a novel that people are going to love. I want to give my readers a world that they can escape into, a character they can fall in love with, and a plot that will bring excitement into their lives.

With some books, there is a fourth that I write for: God. Take my debut novel. It has Christian themes because I wanted it to be known from the very first book that I am a Christian. My faith is the most important thing in my life, and I will not hide it. That being said, not all of my books will have Christian themes. Some of them are written purely for fun and I have no intention of bringing God and Christianity into them.

I probably would've gotten more out of the whole trilogy if I had read the physical books rather than listening to the audiobooks, but I still stand by my opinion that they are extremely confusing. Death's End was all over the place--and time. And I' ...more
