I guess I would classify this as Fan Fiction, as the story plays off the Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice, creating a clever “what if” tale about the adventures of Elizabeth Bennett’s sister, Mary. The timing frame is twenty years after the clo ...more |

Adrianna Trigiani could easily become my new favorite author. I love character-driven novels with humor and perceptive insights, and this book is a minefield of both. This is one of those “can’t put down” novels. Recently divorced and living in her pa ...more |

What a hoot. I have never read anything by this author before, so his irreverent, cheeky writing style was completely unexpected and very much enjoyed. The story is set in Florida, in and around Palm Beach, at the height of the social season The story ...more |

Absolutely one of the best books I have ever read. Urrea is a master storyteller, and an imaginative weaver of the past, the present, the truth, and “expansions” of the truth. This is a book to savor. Enjoy the prose, the use of language, the hauntin ...more |

It took over 130 pages for me to begin to enjoy this book. I definitely enjoyed the last half more than the first, and I’m trying to put my finger on why. The into was gripping - the break-in to an abandoned apt and wondering what it was that the men ...more |

I thought the opening lines were well chosen. Brought us right into the scene without being overly dramatic (People don’t tap their watches anymore…), although I’ll bet younger readers didn’t relate at all. I sort of like that ! In the first three pag ...more |

Thanks for the recommendations. Appreciate it. Both Secret Daughter and The Golden Sun sound like my kind of books.
Hello Lynn: That's nice that we're connected. I'm afraid I haven't been very active on Goodreads. The 2 book covers that appeared re: my profile are both rock and roll bios, and I think you already know, that this is a bit of an obsession with me. Other books however, that I have recently enjoyed are Peter Robinson mysteries (Bookcrosser Over-the-moon kindly sent me one earlier this year from Switzerland, and I really liked it) and if you haven't read "Secret Daughter" or "The Golden Sun" by Indo-Canadian Shilpi Somaya Gowda - they are excellent. Shelley also gave me "The Colour of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother," by James McBride - FANTASTIC! xo

Wrapping up 2023 with a slice-of-life (mine) post. In late Spring I went shopping with a friend who needed to find a new, replacement, Lazy Boy recliner for her husband. We had a great time checking out the overwhelming selection in our local store. I was stunned by the different styles and also by the marvelous fabric selections for special orders. My friend so loved the comfort of the chair she
