Absolutely one of the best books I have ever read. Urrea is a master storyteller, and an imaginative weaver of the past, the present, the truth, and “expansions” of the truth. This is a book to savor. Enjoy the prose, the use of language, the hauntin ...more |

I thought the opening lines were well chosen. Brought us right into the scene without being overly dramatic (People don’t tap their watches anymore…), although I’ll bet younger readers didn’t relate at all. I sort of like that ! In the first three pag ...more |

Thanks for the recommendations. Appreciate it. Both Secret Daughter and The Golden Sun sound like my kind of books.

The 2 book covers that appeared re: my profile are both rock and roll bios, and I think you already know, that this is a bit of an obsession with me. Other books however, that I have recently enjoyed are Peter Robinson mysteries (Bookcrosser Over-the-moon kindly sent me one earlier this year from Switzerland, and I really liked it) and if you haven't read "Secret Daughter" or "The Golden Sun" by Indo-Canadian Shilpi Somaya Gowda - they are excellent. Shelley also gave me "The Colour of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother," by James McBride - FANTASTIC! xo
