Indie Book Review: Demonheart by J.J Egosi

My fourth book for Indie April is the dark fantasy Demonheart (Raging Elementals, #1) by J.J. Egosi.

Demonheart (Raging Elementals, #1) by J.J. Egosi

The book has an action-packed start, involving orcs, a gold coin, and a dragon… even if it was only dreamt up by our protagonist. The main character Michael is an oddity. He is a light bringer in the dark realm. His white hair and blue eyes makes him stick out in the sea of dark hair and eyes of the people of his village.

Michael’s adoptive parents treat him worse than a servant, despite being the richest family around (and having oodles of gold 👑💸). They favor his younger stepsister, Isabella, who will be the heir of the Asmodai estate and billion-gold empire. Michael tolerates the verbal and physical abuse, until one day, he is thrown out unceremoniously by Isabella from the place he called home for most of his life.

Michael is perplexed. Why did his sister throw him out now? Why did she look sad about it? What dark secret is she hiding? Michael sets out to investigate this mystery, and so his journey begins in Demonheart.

Here is the description of the book:

In dark medieval times, a young man serves under the family of the wealthiest jewelry estate in all the land. He believed he’d be nothing more than an instrument of ridicule for all those that crossed his path. Until a violent tragedy exiles him from the only home he knew. Now, he must explore the world on his own in search of a new purpose. Where he meets an assassin in search of the world’s rarest creature: Elementals. Soon, he encounters a witch from another place; existing from a time long ago. Who tells him of a secret to his past he had to experience to truly believe. Now, he must search all corners of the world for something he never knew he had. During a life he never knew he lived. Before the demon king puts an end to all things he finally came to fight for.

This is a dark novel which gets more intense as you read it. There is violence and swearing… and lots of bodies 😱 Michael goes from one dangerous situation to another, so the story remains fast-paced. There are many unexpected twists and turns, such as Michael taking on the job of an assassin by accident... until he is caught in his lie 😆

Demonheart is an interesting story that will keep you riveted on what happens next. I hope that you give this book a chance. Remember to choose an Indie book for Indie April. I am sure that the authors will appreciate your support.

Thank you for reading today’s blog post. I hope that you have a great day 😊

Swipe Right for Murder by Polly Harris

I think I realized something… these past few weeks I was suffering from marketing/writing/everything else burnout. I was just in denial of how much it was affecting me. I delayed the release of The Nine Muses until November, and now I am just doing things to get my creativity back (mainly, staring into space lol 🙃)

Another (perhaps) more productive method is reading, especially outside of my usual genre. I came across a facebook post by the author herself, marketing (like I do!) her book, Swipe Right for Murder. The book has one of those enticing premises that you want to start reading right away, and I did… finishing the book in a day and a half 😆

Swipe Right for Murder by Polly Harris

Here is what the book is about:

DATING IS TOUGH. ESPECIALLY IF THE GUY YOU LIKE MIGHT BE A SERIAL KILLER.

After a devastating heartbreak and a string of short-lived, failed relationships, college student Georgie Itoyama has now decided to approach dating in the same way that she approaches everything else: methodically, logically, and efficiently.

Georgie downloads countless dating apps, determined to find the love of her life as easily as she orders jeans online. And while her love-at-first-sight aspirations don’t exactly come true, she does find someone she likes. Quite a lot.

There’s only one problem. Girls are going missing at Georgie’s university, and all the signs are pointing to . . . him?

But that’s ridiculous. What are the chances that she’s dating an actual serial killer?

Then she matches with Nate. Mysterious, intelligent, and oddly fixated on solving the local disappearances. As Georgie’s relationships deepen with each of her guys, she unwittingly finds herself caught up in the mess that is murder, intrigue, and the nightmare of online dating.

I want to thank Polly for getting me out of the miserable slump I was in, and make me think about something other than my burnout. Also, I totally missed the murderer. I only caught on moments before the reveal (I blame it on a certain bias/statistic regarding serial killers). So, bravo 😅 You got me!

The characters were very likable with believable and genuine relationships and interactions. The only thing that could have been clearer was the layout of the cabin (the image of the layout was a jumbled mess in my head and that took away from some of the suspense). All in all, a sweet, entertaining book that I highly recommend to you all.

I hope that you are well. Remember to take good care of yourselves… I am trying to follow my own advice too 😋

A reminder (if you haven’t already): The Stone Mermaid 🧜‍♀️ is only $0.99 until this Monday. It will go back to $3.99 after that, so grab a copy now. Books2read.com/SM

Thank you for reading!
