My First Reading

My first-ever public reading of my fiction went really well. I read my story "How Do You Want To Die?" from the Crossed Genres anthology Fat Girl In A Strange Land at the Arisia convention in Boston tonight. I managed to read fairly smoothly, and the audience seemed to enjoy the story. It was also nice to see some friends among the listeners.

I also really enjoyed readings by novelist Resa Nelson and poet Sonya Taaffe who shared the timeslot with me.

If you're at Arisia, I'll be in the dealers' room all weekend with Dandelion Studios (aside from a few slots where I'm at panels). Stop by and check out my comics!

My Arisia Schedule

I'll be at the upcoming Arisia convention, January 17-20, 2014, in Boston MA.

I have a reading scheduled for Monday, 1/20 at 10 AM, sharing the timeslot with authors Anna Erishkigal and Greer Gilman.

In addition, I will be on the following panels:

Sat. 11 AM: All-Ages Comics: Still Out There
Sun. 10 AM: Home-Based Businesses & Children
Sun. 2:30 PM: Science Experiments (for ages 6-12)
Sun. 4 PM: Forty Years of Dungeons & Dragons

And finally, my comic company, Dandelion Studios, has a table in the dealers' room, so you can find me at the Dandelion Studios table (Table 118) during most convention hours not listed above.

Hope to see you there!

Snowed In

We didn't end up making it to Queen City Kamikaze.

We woke up at 5 AM, took a look at the foot of snow that had been dumped on Cape Cod (and our driveway), and the fact that the roads were not fully plowed, and went back to bed.

QCK is a great con, and I hope everyone had an awesome time.

We are now looking ahead to Anime Boston and we look forward to seeing you there!

Anime Boston Photos

We had a great time at Anime Boston. It was by far our most successful show ever and it was loads of fun.

You can check out our pictures from the con at this Flickr Gallery.

We'll be at the Maine Comics Arts Festival in May and we're working on arranging something for Free Comic Book Day.

See you on the road!

Our Last Convention For A While

This Sunday (May 18, 2014), Dandelion Studios will be appearing at our last show, at least for the foreseeable future.

As mentioned here before, I've taken a teaching job in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and we're excitedly looking forward to new adventures on the other side of the planet.

We're going to be moving all of our Dandelion Studios comics publishing activities online, and we are expecting to be off the convention circuit for at least two years. Of course, anything is possible, so you may see us show up at an anime con somewhere in Asia, or at a show back in the USA if we end up coming home for our summers.

But we are treating this coming weekend as our farewell show. The event is MECAF, the Maine Comics Arts Festival in Portland ME, and it's consistently been one of our favorite shows.

It features exclusively small press/independent talent, and adult admission is a mere $5. If you are anywhere near Portland this weekend, and you are at all geekily-inclined, this is the best deal for your money, barring none.

Guests of honor are Kazu Kibuishi of Amulet, Vol. 1: The Stonekeeper, Zach Giallongo of Ewoks: Shadow Over Endor, and the creator of one of my favorite recent comic series, Jimmy Gownley of Amelia Rules! Volume 1: The Whole World's Crazy.

So, come to Portland this Sunday and stop by the Dandelion Studios table to check out all of our comic titles, plus a full selection of plushie giant spiders and (not technically giant) narwhals.

Hope to see you there!
