Why is it called "Phantom" Ranch?
Canyon chroniclers say it's named for a nearby side canyon: Phantom Canyon (and Phantom Creek). The narrow side canyon seems to appear and disappear during the day as the Arizona sun performs its shadow play in the Canyon.
